Art Therapy

Art Therapy is an expressive therapy rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It can be based either on creating one's own art or viewing someone else's art in order to help people explore their emotions, address unresolved emotional conflicts, develop self-awareness, cope with stress, boost self-esteem, develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, etc. The main goal is to express one's self through various mediums of art forms with the single purpose of gaining a better understanding of oneself. As a hybrid field influenced both by the disciplines of art and psychology, art therapy primarily aims to support and help individuals experiencing emotional and psychological challenges to achieve personal well-being and improved levels of function in their everyday life. It is not necessary to have any previous artistic experience or natural artistic talents for successful 'art therapy' treatment, so that any individual who seeks the help of a mental health professional may find benefit from it.

Art has always been used as a means of communication, self-expression, group interaction, and conflict resolution throughout history. The term 'art therapy' was first coined in 1942 by a British artist – Adrian Hill, who discovered that painting and drawing can be beneficial for mental health and recovery from tuberculosis. Ever since then, art therapy has evolved as a recognized field that includes care providers educated in other disciplines such as psychology, psychiatry, or other mental health care disciplines. Art therapy can be beneficial to people of all ages. It can help individuals to improve communication and concentration, increase self-esteem and confidence, and reduce feelings of isolation. Its positive effects can be seen while treating various issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, posttraumatic stress, attention deficit hyperactivity, aging and geriatric issues, heart disease, cancer, anorexia, bulimia, eating disorders, cognitive impairments, family or relational issues, etc. It is noteworthy to mention that art therapy helps people express their feelings through creative work so it can be particularly beneficial to those who feel somehow out of touch with their emotions or feelings, or even those who experience difficulty discussing or remembering some painful experiences from their past.

Nowadays, art therapy is provided by certified art therapists who typically have a comprehensive understanding of the powerful effects of art and creative processes on those who undergo that therapy. The desired therapeutical outcomes are usually achieved by means of psychological, spiritual, and artistic theories in conjunction with clinical techniques. Common art therapy techniques may include drawing, painting, finger painting, scribbling, sculpting, using molding clay, making pottery, using textiles, making collages, etc. Eventually, art therapy has become an integral part of many rehabilitation centers, mental health centers, private practices, schools, and other social and community institutions that promote health and well-being.

  1. I think that art is really good for every human being. For example, in Canada doctors think that galleries and museums can help people. They are good for people. Looking at art we gets hormons same as those we get by exercising. Art presents our wishes, needs and interests. I am not good at drawing and painting but I enjoy looking at the artwork of great painters. Art is truly therapy. It relaxes us. I'm playing piano because it's my obligation in this semester, but I'm really enjoying doing that. I must say that art also affects children. Children can express imagination and interest by art.
In psychology, children's drawing is very important. This way we find out if the child has a problem and if something is bothering him

  2. According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy is a kind of therapy that integrates mental health and human services by using “active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience."
It can be applied to improve people's health and well-being for all people, especially for people with mental problems and children with disabillities. It affects children's brains, improves visual memory and stimulates children's creativity. Many psychologists agree that art therapy has many benefits and can be used in many ways. For example, not only art means paintings, carvings, sculptures, but also includes music, dancing and movies. Children can learn a lot from these things. It can be very beneficial to them, so I think it should definitely be applied in schools not only as a school subject, but also as something children will do as much as possible. It is important to develop their creativity and art skills in the early age, referring to preschool period of schooling. Art can definitely broaden the horizons and help children to express their feelings. I think children are too young to undrestand some complex kind of art pieces, but they can observe some other kind of art that can be beneficial for them. I think the good idea for children would be to take online tours of museums and art galleries because they tend to wander around and touch fragile things, which can lead to some unwanted events at that institutions. So, in my opinion, the better idea for them is to watch it from the distance :) . Art therapy for me is a great way to improve my mood and I really like it. Personally, my favourite artist is Picasso and Da Vinci.

Would you agree?

    4. Dear Monja, you gave me a brilliant idea. In that case, it would be better for parents, as well as teachers and everyone who works with children, to educate themselves more about emotional intelligence and behavior modification in children. This is not a philosophy, but something that is proven by some successful scientists. Parents are the most responsible for child's upbringing, so it is up to them to correct their behaviour. But don't forget teachers. They also play an important role in child's behaviour. Together they affect child's perception in many different ways. What do you think about these considerations? Thank you for sharing your opinion about this topic. I am thrilled to talk about inspiring subjects on this blog.

    5. Yes, absolutely! There are no limits when teachers and parents come together and cooperate, when it comes to raising a healthy, well-mannered, intelligent child. We shouldn't forget that teachers and parents represent the biggest role models for a child in development! If we show them which behavior is acceptable and which behavior isn't, there is less of a concern that the child will behave inappropriately. 7. Of course, I think that art is the best way for the kids to express they're feelings, they're talents from the young age. I think that best way of art, for the kids, is drawing. When they are still young, they don't have to care about some serious things. They are free and they can let they're imagination go wild. Someone who cares about the child, for example, parent(s) can, through the drawing, see how the child feels about they're surrounding, they're family members etc.

  3. Art is a beautiful way of expressing your self, especially for children. If they have some problems and find it hard to express them self by talking they can do it by drawing. Art can be used in kindergartners to learn colors which can benefit them later in the traffic as example.
You can start learning art to the kids from the age of 1 in my opinion because they can learn moving there hand by painting as example.
Art can definitely broaden the horizons and help children to express their feelings.

  7. Art therapy uses creative expression for fostering healing and mental health. Art is generally an amazing way of expressing our emotions and our feelings. When we feel overwhelmed or stress it can help us calm down and relax. Painting helps me personally in times when everyday routines and responsibilities become too much for me. For me it's a way to reconnect with myself. Children often times don't have the ability to express their emotions through words, because sometimes, their feelings are way bigger than their vocabulary. So because of that I think that art can be a great way for them to put all of their emotions on a piece of paper. Other than that it is a great start for them to open up to us, by describing what they drew. I think that it's never too early to introduce children to art, even as babies they can enjoy a little bit of sensory play using paint, sand and other materials. It's important for parents not to criticize their children's art in a negative way, that could lead them to stop loving an appreciating their own art, as well as other peoples art. I don't think that children are too young to understand art, because art isn't something to be understood in the first place. Art is to be experienced and appreciated. Each of us interprets art in a different way, and a piece of art may bring different emotions to each of us. Art can benefit all of us, even though you may think that you can't pain or draw, that is never true. You don't have to be a professional artist to make great art, you just have to relax and trust yourself. That being said, it is never okay to say to a child that their art isn't good enough or that it isn't done in a way it should have been done. That can influence them on a very personal level, for it is not just art that we are criticizing, it is their emotions as well.

  10. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that applies the creative art process as a means of expression and communication. Creative art processes in art therapy mean drawing, painting and modeling in the broadest sense of the word, so that spilling paint on paper or tearing paper can be as therapeutically valuable art process and product as the most aesthetically pleasing or technically most skillful paintings. Art therapy is very useful for improving the health and well-being of each individual because the art process expresses conscious and unconscious thoughts and emotions, and the unconscious ones are of greater importance because they bring new insights. In this way, people make it easier and show through fine art everything that they cannot explain to someone in words. Applying Art therapy in working with preschool children is very important because children also need a way to leave but at the same time express their feelings that are difficult for children to explain in words. In the process of Art therapy, the main role of the educator is to prepare and provide a stimulating environment to enable children to learn through play, movement and all the senses, with incentives involving a variety of materials and objects and the ability to explore and manipulate these materials and objects . For me, art and art therapy is also very useful because it relaxes with drawing and artistic expression. Art pleases my psyche and I feel much more beautiful after I draw something or paint.

  11. Art therapy is an expressive therapy rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster a person's physical, mental and emotional well-being. We can use someone else art or we can ask person on therapy to draw something, that help people to explore their emotions, address unresolved emotional conflicts, develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, etc. Art therapy, same like psychology wants to help people to express their emotions and to make them feel better. I think that is easier for children drawing than thinking about some art. Children in kindergarten can draw a lot of thing, they can express how they feel in family with their draw. I think that art is beneficial to children. Child can't express his feelings because children don't have good vocabulary. But when they draw, they can draw mother big or scary, so therapist can say that child think that his mom is good person, because he draw her big, or his mom is strict because she look like witch. But bad side of it that we need time to say that something is one houndred procent correct. Maybe we need to introduce art to children with two years, maybe their works don't be good but they need time to learn everything. Parents need to appreciate every art of child because parents need to help child to have self-confidence. Maybe children are to young to really appreciate art, but they have their own way to value art. They don't know maybe that this art is extreamly great or bad, or that art help them to make them feel better, but their smile show us that child really enjoy in art, and that is some way of appreciation. I think that art online is not same like real art, we don't have same feeling when we are in art galleries and at home. Art galleries give speacial feeling to us, and we give more atention to arts. But when we are at home I think that we just watch pictures without realizing real point.

  13. Art Therapy is a good way to express your feelings, especially for children who find it easy to express what they feel thorough paintings and drawings. It helps them to say what they feel without actually saying it. Instead, they draw it. Thanks to that, we can see what that child feels and thinks. Through its drawings, child is showing, for example, relations in his family between his parents or siblings. Child is also showing its emotions, whether it is happiness, joy or jealousy. By seeing those drawings and paintings you can find out almost everything about that child and you can find certain ways of helping him/her.

  15. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that applies creative art process as an expression and communication medium. I consider that art therapy can improve overall health and welfare of people. During art therapy a person relaxes, removes bad thoughts and focuses only to positive things that it carries inside of itself. I consider that relationship between art therapy and psychology is very strong, and, basically, psychology needs “to design” of this kind of therapy. Art therapy is one of the ways to solve psychological people problems. During art therapy, psychologists can find out how people feel, what bothers them and, accordingly, plan therapeutic sessions. Also, art therapy can be applied with children in preschool institutions. Applying art therapy with both typical and atypical children is creditable. When we are talking about children with typical development, during art therapy we can detect any difficulties or interferences in their upbringing and education. Art therapy can make easier and more interesting work with children with atypical development, and to make both children and educator more comfortable. Generally, I consider the art is very useful for children. Everything that can be offered to children in childhood leaves deep memories in its upbringing. The famous Maria Montessori characterized the children as sponges that absorb everything that surrounds them. Because of that, if we want children to feel, appreciate and understand the art, we need to expose them to such situations. I consider that children can be encouraged to art through different activities immediately after the birth, but, surely, the earliest period for intensive work in this field begins after child’s one year. I consider that the art is very important for the child because it can broaden its own horizons. Children who are more exposed to arts have different cogitations. Most often they are very progressive, and their cogitation goes to a higher level, symbolical level. The art teaches them to start thinking and analyzing anything in their surroundings, not only dwelling on information they get by observing. Currently, applying of art and going to art corners are safer in online form, because of the health. We already know that we need to reduce visits and day trips to a minimum. But TV screens or monitors cannot completely convey the experience and quality of art work. The art has special quality “live”.

  16. The use of artistic methods to treat psychological disorders and enhance mental health is known as art therapy. With art therapy people  can explore their emotions, they can cope with stress, boost self-esteem. It can have many positive impacts on human well-being. Art therapy is a mental health profession. We can and should use art therapy in schools, as well. For example, students can paint any design they think represents their emotion. I think that this is very interesting and for kids funny way to express how they feel. Art can be very important for children. Therapists tell us that art is valuable because it allows children to process their world, to deal with sometimes scary emotions in a safe way, and because it gives them critical sensory input.
Art can definitely broaden children's horizons. It allows them to use their imagination, have fun, and use their fine motor skills. Children may be to young to understand and appreciate art but as they grow up, they will start to understand it.

Art can help us to deal with emotions like anger and sadness .Also it can be a great way to relax .Art therapy can not only help you deal with the bad stuff, but also can help you appreciate and focus on the good. Many research indicates art therapy can improve communication and concentration and also can help reduce feeling of isolation. Sometimes I prefer to take my drawing pad and draw something of course as far as my obligations allow. I am not an artist that is for sure but drawing relaxes me in the rare moments of my freedom. 18. • Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that applies the creative art process as a means of expression. Through this type of psychotherapy, the doctor and the client communicate without restraint or discomfort. Also, this type of communication with the doctor gives children enough time to gain the trust of the doctor to be able to communicate with him in an adequate way. With art therapy, clients express their thoughts and feelings. In this way, clients can express their anxiety without restraint without verbally expressing themselves. One of the first types of communication between children and an adult is drawing, with the help of drawings the interlocutor can find out in what condition the child is, what he feels and what he thinks. It is necessary to introduce children to art at an early age, because in these way children expand their horizons, build their imagination and creativity and become more confident. Parents and teachers should encourage children to art and artistic expression. By visiting museums and art galleries, children learn something new, face new situations, but also get acquainted with art. It is important to take children to museums, galleries to feel what it means to go to an exhibition and the like, to have direct contact with works of art, because a virtual display of such art events can not awaken in children the same experience as a visit. I think that art therapy is very useful, because using it I can say that it is very relaxing, I like to draw, create and everything I make with my own hands is special for me, it creates a special feeling in me and the level of self-confidence grows with each new work.

The main goal is to express one's self trought various mediums of art forms with the single purpose of gaining a better understanding of oneself.
Art has always been used as a means of communication, self-expression, group interaction and conflict resolution troughout history.
Nowadays art therapy is provided by certified art therapist who typically have a comprehensive understanding of the powerful effects of art and creative processes on those who undergo that therapy. 21. Art therapy developed in the mid-20th century. The term ‘art therapy’ was first coined by British artist Adrian Hill who discovered that painting and drawing can be beneficial for mental health and recovery from tuberculosis. Art therapy is an expression therapy based on the idea that creative expression can boost a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. Art therapy belongs to group therapy, which also includes music therapy, and dance and movement therapy. I think art therapy is very useful in schools because art expression is one of the oldest media of human communication. In addition to communication, artistic expression is considered a reflection of a person's inner world. It contributes to the development of students and teachers and parents to address that children are overcome by phobias, stress, and a reduction in feelings of isolation.

  22. Art therapy is a method to become healthier in pcychic and mental way. I am personally a lover of art. I can draw or paint for many hours because it makes me so relaxed. It affects that I forgot on real history and keep deep in some kind of imagination.
In elementary school at many school subjects, children have the tasks to express their feeling by drawing and painting. Art therapy can also be used with children with difficulties in development or with some problems. It is an easier way to express their feelings and they tend to do so. I was the witness of the situation when one child in kindergarten has taken the paper withdrawing in the purse of a teacher. On that paper was shown how that child felt. It was like some kind of attack on her by the group and she drew that.
I am not so much in famous artist names, but it was always very interesting to me how Mona Lisa looks at you no matter where are you standing.
Psychology is a very deep field and it is possible to effect on people's minds no just with art, but with poetry, play instruments, etc.

  23. Hello everyone!

Art therapy is a fantastic thing. In general, all kinds of art ennoble man. It’s simple or it will relax you or drive you crazy. I recently did my research and unfortunately in our country art therapy is used very little in preschool institutions. Children really understand art. A child's drawing can represent his entire interior. If he uses strong colors and squeezes on the paper, it is very likely that he is angry or frustrated or if he equates some family members or draws them very small while others draw large ones. These are all very important indicators that the child needs work and that something very important is happening in his environment. It makes me terribly sad, but I also hope that art therapy will improve in our country, yet we work with children in their most sensitive periods of life.

  24. Hello everyone 🖐

This is a very interesting topic.

Art therapy is a distinct discipline that incorporates creative methods of expression through visual art media. Art therapy, as a creative arts therapy profession, originated in the fields of art and psychotherapy and may vary in definition. Art therapy can be used to help people improve cognitive and sensory motor function, self-esteem, self awareness, emotional resilience. It may also aide in resolving conflicts and reduce distress. Art therapy is increasingly recognized to help address challenges of people with autism, as evidenced through these sources. Art therapy can take place in a variety of different settings. Art therapists may vary the goals of art therapy and the way they provide art therapy depending upon or client’s needs. After an assessment of the client’s strengths and needs, art therapy may be offered in either an individual or group format, according to which is better suited to the person.

  25. Art therapy is a form of nonverbal expression of thoughts and feelings. This method of work enable teachers and psychologists to communicate with children in order to help the child to create a positive image of himself and others. Art therapy is very useful, for example, in teaching children's drawing is a tool that serves to connect, open and establish communication between teachers and children. Children will always say a lot more about themselves and their feelings with a drawing than they would say with a speech. When I talk about drawings, I remember one event from my internship in my first year of college. The teacher worked with students people's professions, talked about what professions exist and what jobs adults can do. When the teacher talked about the doctors, the student who was extremely communicative became very silent and withdrawn. In that moment, the teacher did not react on him unusual behavior. In the art class, students had the task to draw the occupation they liked the most. The teacher then observed the work of the students. Since they were first graders, the teacher had time to sit down with the students and talk about what they had drawn and what it meant to them. When the teacher came to the student I was writing about, she looked at his drawing and asked him to describe what he had drawn and what it meant to him. Through the drawing, this student described his feelings, things that happened in his family and grandfather's illness. In this situation, it happened that the student shared his feelings and worries through the drawing. Working with children will often lead to unplanned situations like this. It is very important to know how to react correctly. It is also very important to know how to analyze a child's drawing - the meaning of certain colors, how much of the paper is occupied by a certain color. Of course, it is very important to ask the student what he used a certain color for and what it represents for him. One of the pioneers of art therapy, Margaret Naumberg, has just recognized that man’s thoughts and feelings find their expression much sooner in pictures than in words. 

In art therapy person may do some of the following exercises: painting, drawing, finger painting, working with clay, carving, sculpting, doodling and scribbling and making collages. All of these exercises take place under of the guidance of art therapist. Art therapy can also be used in working with children. 27. As someone who appreciates art but is not so much into it, I have to say that I think that art therapy is a great way of showing your inner self and to clear your mind. Art therapy can help people with anger managing, stress relief and help people to improve their mental health through expressing themselves, their imagination and emotions. In our case, art is very important in kindergartens and schools. At a very young age, kids start finding the way of showing their emotions, needs, creativity and their points of view. I find it very cool and creative when kids express themselves through their drawings, singing or dancing. But on the other side, I don't think that kids must learn about more serious art, visit art galleries and etc... They can start from the basics and then climb up to the top when they're old enough to understand the real meaning of the art pieces. When they are old enough to inderstand the world and the deeper meaning, art can change their lives, improve expressing of their oppinions and social status. All in one, I'm for art and art therapy, but one step at a time.

  28. The use of artistic methods to treat psychological disorders and enhance mental health is known as art therapy. Art therapy is a technique rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being.
Art therapy isn’t only type of creative arts. Other types of creative therapies include: Dance therapy, Drama therapy, Expressive therapy, Music therapy, Writing therapy.
An art therapist may use a variety of art methods, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage with clients ranging from young children to the elderly.
Clients who have experienced emotional trauma, physical violence, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, and other psychological issues can benefit from expressing themselves creatively.
People do not need to have artistic ability or special talent to participate in art therapy, and people of all ages including children, teens, and adults can benefit from it. Some research suggests that just the presence of art can play a part in boosting mental health.

It can be very therapeutic, it can help with anger, shyness, disabilities and all the other states and conditions that stop you from being able to express yourself. But it can be a negative thing if we push our own ideas of what some art work is suppose to make you feel or look like to children, then you are just missing the point. 30. Art therapy is a human activity whose basic idea is that art has an effective, we can say healing effect on some people. Through art therapy, people can get rid of stress. They say that when we do something with our hands, it has a calming effect on us. So this art, which we mostly do with our hands, has a calming effect, it develops our imagination and creativity. It is also the connection of art with psychology. We can offer children art therapy in kindergarten, ie art that can have a therapeutic effect on them. By painting, drawing, playing with plasticine and clay and with various other techniques, we develop their motor skills, speech, mutual cooperation and communication, imagination and creativity. Art will greatly contribute to their development. I think children are too young to understand art, but we can take them to museums and exhibitions to slowly awaken that awareness in them.
I personally love realism in art while I am not a fan of abstract art. At this time of the pandemic, I visited online theaters more than museums and exhibitions.

  31. If there was one thing that kindergarten and grade school kids enjoyed the most would probably be art. Art is like a getaway from boring math problems for kids. Some people say that art is just a work of creativity. I would disagree with that. I think that art is much more than that. Art can help people in many ways because it raises self- esteem, helps with mental disorders, and also can work as a very powerful therapy method. The making of art allows a person to express themselves on paper. Also, it can allow them to draw out the way they see themselves. This can help a person to be more confident. In the end, if anyone can not handle the thought of talking about their feelings maybe they should attempt to try art therapy. A safe, quiet and fun way.

  32. In your opinion, what is the earliest age to introduce art to children?
I am not an artist of any kind, unfortunately. I say this because I envy those who can paint or even color beautifully (because I can’t, and the art class was the hardest class in school). But I strongly believe that parents should encourage their children to paint/color as soon as they can hold a color pencil in their fingers. Children are the best artists. They are honest, without any shame to express how they feel about something, and after all, this is their way of communication since at early age they can’t write any words to say what they feel or think. Not every child is talented, or likes to do it (some of them are), but this is something children should do as a part of their daily routine. Unfortunately many parents don’t have time, or they think art is not so important for their children, or they might destroy the furniture with different paint  but paper and some color pencils should be side by side with teddy bears, Lego blocks, tablets, etc. Also parents should keep the collections of little artists, display them on their refrigerators, windows, sending them as presents for important days to grandparents, aunts and uncles, and so on.

  33. To be honest I understand art as expressing visions, emotions, etc. They are not just famous painter artists, writers, musicians and others are also. Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. With children it’s all a little different. The reason more to try to keep your child’s love of drawing is the ability to draw their emotions. You can suggest to the child to draw not what he is afraid of, but to draw the feeling itself - fear. Help him with questions: How do you feel when you are afraid of something? Where do you think your fear is in your body? Is that fear big, small? Does it have color, does it have shape, does it remind you of some animal?
The greatest works of art were created in bad periods of the artist's life. Each person is an artist for himself. Whole of us is one artwork. It doesn’t matter if we draw well or not, we draw for us and only for our eyes.

  34. Art therapy is a texhnique rooted in the idea that creative expression cas foster healing and mental well-being. People have been relying on the arts to communicate, express themselves, and heal for thousands of years. But art therapy didn't start to become a formal program until the 1940s. There are many types of creative therapies and art therapy is not the only type of creative arts used in the treatment of mental illness today. Doctors noted that individuals suffering from mental illness often expressed themselves in drawings and other artworks. Art therapy is something that people can use as a healing strategy. Techniques used in art therapy can include collage, coloring, drawing, finger painting, photography, sculpting and working with clay. Some conditions that art therapy may be used to treat include aging-related issues, anxiety, cancer, depression, eating disorders, emotional difficulties, family or relationship problems, medical conditions etc. Here are a few simple art therapy activities that will help your kids identify and manage their feelings: create mandals, picture your emotions, make art from nature, transform something, piece things together, make masks and family sculpture.

  35. Hello!
Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, coloring or sculpting to help people express themselves. Art therapy helps children, adolescents and adults to explore their emotions relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. The advantage of art therapy is that we don’t have to have talent. Our main task is to express our emotions and feelings through drawing, painting or coloring. Art therapy also can be helpful for children with challenges as childhood trauma, disabilities and special educational needs, criminal conviction and chronic asthma. Most young children have usually expressed themselves more naturally and spontaneously through actions rather than through words. I think that it is never too early to introduce children to the artistic world of creativity, color and expression so children should be involved in these activities as early as possible. Art broaden children's horizons because it affects motor skills, decision making, visual learning and improves academic performance. My favourite artist is Vincent Willem van Gogh and his work „The Starry Night“ because it's so mysterious, warm and elegant.

  36. Art is good for everyone, and certainly for children. Whether we are looking at someone else’s art or making our own people it helps us to express emotions and cope with stress. There are many studies that show how important art therapy can be for a child's development, and how much it helps them express their emotions through drawing. Those children who are hyperactive, art therapy helps them calm down. Children who have a fear of something art therapy helps them remove that fear.

It is very useful for withdrawn people when we want to learn something about them, it is one of the methods psychologists use. Art is good for everyone, it opens our soul and puts it into action. It helps treat nervousness and gives us an escape from reality if needed. Art is also a feast for the eyes because it is otherwise beautiful and enchanting. During this practice, we can notice if there are cognitive, emotional, or behavioral symptoms or anything that students are struggling with. We gave the children material. We created an “Art Wall” for the kids by placing a huge white billboard on the wall. Kids could draw at any time. It was really interesting. The children drew during the break, and also every time I noticed they were nervous or not feeling well, I would tell them to take time for themselves and to draw. 41. According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy is a kind of therapy that integrates mental health and human services by using “active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience." Therapist use patients' free form art expressions to encourage them to talk about the images and to begin to look to themselves for meaning and insight. Combined with talk therapy, it can help people deal with strong emotions, increase self-awareness and self-worth and decrease stress and anxiety. Art therapy is a nonverbal therapy constructed from thoughts and feelings. Like other forms of psychotherapy and counseling, art therapy and its’ creative process has been known to help individuals gain self-understanding, boost personal growth, guide emotional amends, selfheal, and enhance life. Art education is a curriculum that provides the connection that students need in order to strive and connect; to succeed. When students experience vital curriculum and see real purpose in school, it can help them break away from the feelings of hopelessness and change those feelings into purposefulness. (Stankiewicz, 2001) Not only does art education provide ways to connect the curriculum to the students’ lives, it can also support their stages in development. One thing that art education provides that other core classes often don’t, is choice; the value of sparking one’s curiosity. By giving the students a choice, students will be motivated through natural curiosity and self-determination.

  44. Art Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness.
For the most part, anyone can use art therapy. In a world where there is a multitude of ways to communicate and express one’s self, expressive arts therapy is yet another. One of the major differences between art therapy and other forms of communication is that most other forms of communication elicit the use of words or language as a means of communication. Often times, humans are incapable of expressing themselves within this limited range.
One of the beauties of art as therapy is the ability for a person to express his/her feelings through any form of art. Though there are other types of expressive therapies (such as the performing arts), expressive art therapy as discussed here typically utilizes more traditional forms of art…such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, or a variety of other types of visual art expression.
The benefits of art for kids are many and include problem-solving abilities, creativity, literacy, fine & gross motor skills, connection, and understanding.
    Art promotes creativity.
Creativity is the ability to think outside the proverbial box, to string two unrelated ideas together in a new way. Solutions to major problems and breakthroughs of all kinds are linked to creativity.
The ability to be creative is vital to the success of our children and the well-being of our world. Now, more than ever, as we face incredible challenges such as racial discord, wars, global warming, and mass extinctions. Individuals, organizations, and governments seek innovative solutions every day.
Art encourages neural connections. Art is an activity that can employ all the senses––sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste––depending on the activity. Children’s brain synapses fire away as they experiment and create by squishing paint between their fingers, mixing colors & materials, or drawing from imagination or what they see in front of them.
    Art builds fine motor skills.
Gripping a paintbrush, drawing dots and lines, mixing colors, cutting with scissors, controlling a glue stick or squeezing a glue bottle, kneading and rolling playdough, tearing paper—all of these tasks require increasing amounts of dexterity and coordination, yet they are so fun and rewarding that children want to do them over and over. As kids engage in art activities over time, their fine motor skills improve.
Art helps kids understand themselves and their world.
Children absorb incredible amounts of new information, and they need to process what they have learned in a safe, reflective way. Art allows them to explore feelings and deal with both daily and significant events.
Art materials provide a safe outlet for emotions. Feelings and ideas can be reduced to a manageable size and manipulated as desired. Movement, image, color, line, and imagination all help children express themselves in a multidimensional way. This is a way that words may not be able to do, or that may be more comfortable for them than words.
    Art is important for everyone.

  46. Art therapy is the way people communicate and express themselves. It's used to improve people's health but also to encourage people to express their emotions. This therapy also helps people to improve their communication skills. If you just take colors and start painting, it liberates you of stress, and you feel different. We express ourselves with colors that we use while painting. One of our teachers said - "If you want to know how children feels about poem or a story, just tell them to use one of the colors to express their feelings and impressions about it."
Even in classroom, we can use art to help children express their hidden problems. Their art work can tell us a lot about them and their feeling, life and emotions.
I also think that we should introduce art to children from early ages. It helps them to concentrate on something, to develop a sense of beauty, but also it helps them to develop motor skills.
You don't need any talent for this therapy, but it sure will help you to improve your life and overcome your problems.

Art should be a part of everyones life. Through art we can express our feelings, emotions, creativity, our perception about the world or about any thing we see. I love every kind of art. It's so relaxing. I found peace in drawing, work with fondant and making chocolate sculptures. I make some cartoons characters like Superman, LOL dolls, Barbie, Ladybug, Elsa or Anna from Frozen, Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty, Masha and The Bear, cars, Paw Patrol, some animals etc. I used to call it #mymasterpieces, and I'm very proud of myself. These skills can be useful in my future proffesion which is educator and rehabilitator with children with difficulties. Something like this can improve their motor skills, imagination, and make them happy and there nothing more important than that. I enjoy doing it, it is like meditation for me. Also, art is good for our mental health, so doing some form of art can be our isolation from world, and everone needs it from time to time. Elna Gačanin, ER2

  48. I think that our society doesn't know much about "Art Therapy" and that it is not used as much as it could and should be. Of course, our society is very late in everything for the rest of the world and so with some methods that can help our mental and physical health.
To be honest, I haven't had many opportunities in my life to observe certain deeds and to improve my health based on that. When I was younger I loved to write and in that way I relaxed and sailed into some unreal world, a world of imagination to isolate myself from the real world and the worries I have. I loved making up different stories and writing about it, I wrote less poetry.
I never thought I had a talent for painting and drawing so I wasn’t even very interested in it. However, once in college we were given the task of drawing and creating different works of fine art, that’s when I realized how relaxing it was and how much my childhood drawing had improved. I felt really nice as I drew and painted all those pictures with light classical music in the background. I felt that the stress was disappearing and that in those moments I forgot the problems and obligations that I have and that occupy my mind.
I really find that every kind of art heals and enriches us, makes us a lot more relaxed and less nervous. I think we should find ways and times to relax every week and dedicate ourselves to some kind of art that is close to us and in which we find ourselves. And sometimes we can get out of the comfort zone and try something we haven't before, we never know what we will like and what we will love, right? Try it! :)

Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness. People have been relying on the arts to communicate, express themselves, and heal for thousands of years.Doctors noted that individuals suffering from mental illness often expressed themselves in drawings and other artworks, which led many to explore the use of art as a healing strategy. Eventually, art therapy has become an integral part of many rehabilitation centers, mental health centers, private practices, schools, and other social and community institutions that promote health and well-being.

  51. Art (music, drawing, painting, movement, drama, stories, modeling) provides self-expression and can reveal resources, one's own strengths and abilities. Art therapy combines traditional psychotherapeutic theories and techniques with an understanding of the psychological aspects of the creative process.

The content of Art Therapy workshops consists of human development perspectives arising from traditional anthropological approaches as well as modern psychology: Perception, consciousness and senses, perceptual drawing, painting, phenomenological way of observing images, modeling, dynamic drawing, fairy tales, diagnostics, perception, interpretation, introduction to drawing forms, diagnosing through drawing forms, temperaments.

Art therapy workshops focus on developing participants' skills to use specific creative techniques and interpersonal relationships for healing, personal growth and social change. Art therapy aims to teach how to use therapeutic painting, drawing and modeling that stimulates the healing processes of the mind, body and spirit. The primary emphasis is on the experiential learning of the participant - when the participant trains his perception, quality of senses, when he develops his "I" and behavior, authorized technique, then he is able to spread further what he has done, which has integrated. During the education, participants achieve better perception, conservation and alertness, activation of creative potential, development of self-awareness, release of physical and mental blockages, improvement of self-expression, concentration and work habits, improvement of interpersonal communication and listening skills, relaxation and stress reduction. connecting with the world and the dynamics of the world around you.

  52. I find that children are never too young to go to exhibitions. For years, our view of art has changed. Sometimes an image we have seen before evokes new emotions when we see it again. We start to look at it in a completely different way. So I think kids should go to galleries because their horizons will expand. They will build themselves culturally. In this way the brain develops. Also, by visiting galleries children can awaken a love of painting. Some may then decide to be painters when they grow up.

  53. Art therapy is a form of expressive psychotherapy that not only deals with problems and negative aspects of a person but also discovering inner potentials, creative resources, developing one's positive aspects which help the person to face any problems, look at them from a different perspective, better understand them and deal with them in a more constructive way.

Art therapy with children is focused on developing socio-emotional skills, giving emotional support and providing the children with a safe, yet stimulating environment. Using various art forms (pictures, drawings, collages, modelling) as a mean of expressing oneself it becomes a mediation process in therapy through which emotions, development, capabilities, personality, interests are reflected. The art process isn't just drawing in a classical sense of the word but it can be anything.

Visits to galleries, museums (etc.) are of enormous importance for every person but also every child. Children from small age should be taught to appreciate the value of art. Noticing the beautiful things, stimulating them to think about art is something we should teach our children. Art therapy, for me, serves as a way to relax and take a break from stressful situations. My favorite artist is Pablo Picasso.

  55. Art therapy is a psychotherapeutic method by which the therapist unobtrusively communicates with the child in order to relieve him of possible trauma and help him develop a positive image of himself and others. A traumatized child most often hides feelings and does not talk directly about the events that led to the trauma. Art therapy helps him to express his experience of what he has experienced through drawings. Interpreting with the child his artistic expression, the therapist reaches out to his emotional world which tells how the child feels and how he sees the relationships in his family. Art therapy does not deal with diagnosis through drawing, but the therapist together with the child discovers the meaning of the drawing.Through drawing, children express thoughts and feelings that they do not yet know how to express or are uncomfortable talking about. Art therapy begins with a short conversation during which the child begins to draw. It just chooses what to draw and what technique to use.Three drawings that give a quality insight into the child's self-perception and attitudes, both intellectually the functioning of the child are drawings of a house, a tree and a man. According to the drawing of the house can be estimated
relationships within the family and life in the house, drawing a tree psychologists consider a representative of the child psychological development and feelings towards the environment and evaluate it according to appearance or the absence of certain features, details, proportions and perspectives and, if necessary, according to use color and human drawing reflects the child's intellectual growth and potential and emotional relationships.

  56. Art therapy is a therapy in which people improve their mental health. This therapy can help people with anxiety, depression, trauma and other disorders. Children who don't know how to express their feelings can go to art therapy so the therapist can help them learn how to express their feelings and emotions. People don't have to know how to draw or paint in order to go to
the art therapy, because the therapist can help them by discussing someone else's art and the meaning of it. People of all age can go to that kind of therapy, and it can help with confidence and feeling of isolation. I think that art can be introduced to children from a very early age. They can learn how to paint with their fingers or just how to use colors. It can help them with expressing themselves from a very young age, which could lower chances of them getting depressed or anxcious in future. It is very important to use art in school, but also at home. Sure, we should not make kids to draw or paint if they don't want to. But if they do, we should support them.
As I said, people of all age can use art therapy, and should really consider using it for their mental health. It is very relaxing, calming and beautiful.

  57. Art therapy is very important for everyone. I am someone who paints and finds peace in it. That way I forget about stress, I express my feelings. Art is in itself a way out of real life, which is good for children to show all their imagination in this way.

  59. Art therapy is for me a kind of stress reliever. Art can help people to explore their emotions, boost self-esteem and to show themselves through drawings. Connection betwen art and pshylogy is that art therapy primarily aims to support and help individuals experiencing emotional, pshylogy challenges them everyday to achieve personal well-being and to improve levels of function in their life. We can use art therapy to get to know children better, to raise their self-confidence. Through the drawings we can also see if a child has any difficulties. For example, is it is depressed, has it food problems and others. Art is beneficial to children. It can help them to improve communication and concentration, it can reduce feelings of isolation and increase self-esteem and confidence. Art can help them express their feelings through their work. I think the earliest age to introduce art to children is kindergarten. Parents can influence the child. Children are like sponges absorbing everything. Art can help broaden children's horizons. They are learning about new techniques and get to know new materials they can work with. Through art they learn. Children are not young to understand art and its value. From an early age, children should be taught to respect everything. We just need to adapt art assignments to their age. Art can be beneficial to me when I'm bored I draw something, when I'm nervous I draw some smilies. It helps me remove that stress. My favorite artist is Leonardo da Vinci. Mona Lisa is my favorite piece of art. Online art is better at this time of the pandemic because there will be a lot of people in art galleries or museums which is not desirable in this situation.
