Plagiarism

Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to 'plagiarize' means: to steal and pass of (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft, or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Therefore, it can be considered as an act of fraud because it is completely unethical: you are stealing someone else's intellectual property and even intend to derive some benefits for yourself out of it.

Plagiarism usually involves using words or ideas of others and presenting them as your own, or republishing one's own previously submitted work and presenting it as new, or presenting one's work without referencing the earlier work. Plagiarism undermines academic and research integrity and should not be tolerated in academic circles. In most cases, it happens when students decide consciously to gain credit for the work of others, but it can also happen unconsciously or unintentionally, i.e. when it is not the product of deliberate cheating but of underdeveloped academic skills or ignorance. Thus, plagiarism may be caused by intellectual insecurity, lack of critical / analytical skills, lack of summarising and paraphrasing skills, inadequate research, poor referencing skills, underdeveloped writing skills, etc. Therefore, we have to develop these skills in our students and educate them how to avoid plagiarism, so the chances for them of being accused of plagiarism will be greatly reduced.

There are different types of plagiarism and they all represent serious violations of academic honesty. The most common types of plagiarism are: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism (https://www.enago.com/academy/fraud-research-many-types-plagiarism/).

Complete plagiarism is the most unethical one as it implies that someone takes someone else's work (e.g. a manuscript or study) and submits it under his or her name. It is a theft in the real sense of the word as someone is stealing someone else's intellectual property. Source-based plagiarism refers to a misleading citation, i.e. when a researcher references a source that is incorrect or does not exist, or uses a secondary source of data or information, but only cites the primary one. This form of plagiarism also involves data fabrication (making up of data and research findings) and data falsification (changing or omitting data to give a false impression). Direct plagiarism occurs when someone takes someone else's work word-for-word, without quotation marks and giving credits, and represents it as his own work. It is similar to complete plagiarism, but it refers to sections (rather than all) of another work. This type of plagiarism also happens deliberately and is completely unethical and academically dishonest. Auto or self-plagiarism happens when an author reuses significant portions of his or her previously published work without attribution and presents it as something new and original. Paraphrasing plagiarism is the most common type of plagiarism which occurs when someone uses someone else's words and ideas with some minor changes in the sentences and presents them as one's own. Inaccurate authorship happens when an an author contributes to a manuscript but does not get credit for it, or vice versa, when an author gets credit without actually contributing to the work. Mosaic or patchwork plagiarism is the most sofisticated one as it implies that an author combines and interlays someone else's phrases or text within his or her own research. Accidental plagiarism is a type of plagiarism which occurs because of neglect, mistake, or unintentional paraphrasing and it is mostly common among students who may lack proper academic skills and education about what is considered as plagiarism and how to avoid it.

Plagiarism is definitely considered as a violation of academic integrity and moral rights. The best way of avoiding plagiarism is to learn and employ the principles of good academic practice from the very beginning of one's academic career. Students would benefit a lot from learning in the early school days about all of the issues related to plagiarism and practical ways how to avoid it and maintain good academic practice.

Primjedbe

  1. Plagiarism is representation of another author's language, ideas, thoughts or expressions as someone's own original work. It is an act of intellectual dishonesty. Plagiarism violates honor codes and can cause irreparable damage to a person's reputation. There are few types of plagiarism, such as: direct plagiarism, 'mosaic' plagiarism, paraphrased plagiarism, accidental plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, complete plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism and inaccurate authorship. The best way of avoiding plagiarism is to learn and employ the principles of good academic practice from the very beginning of one's academic career. As students, we should follow some useful tips that prevent academic plagiarism. Those are: beginning the research process as early as possible, writing a thorough outline, keeping track of our sources and using an online plagiarism checker. I absolutely agree that plagiarism is a crime because it is a way of stealing someone's effort, hard work and productive ideas. It doesn't feel good when you see that your sentences are in someone's paper. Everything you did has gone down the lurch. Therefore, every illegal thing , whether it is online or on a paper, should be strictly punished.

  2. Plagiarism is the word that describes copying and stealing someone else’s words or work and presenting it as their own. There are some categories and I’m sure everyone of us did use plagiarism at some point in our life, that is the not intentional plagiarism. In primary or high school, we took someone else’s words or work and presented it in our assignments for sure, but now, as we know what that means, we don’t do that. When we take pictures, sounds, music or words, make sure to give credit to the owner, so we don’t get in any kind of trouble. In this time, where knowledge is power, I think that plagiarism should be punished with a money fine to prevent same situation in the future. As we don’t like when someone is using something we put our time, knowledge and hard work in, nobody’s gonna like it too. To prevent this to happen, we need to raise awareness that this is really wrong and that we won’t get anything good by using someone, when we can use our knowledge and work. The original is always better than the copy.

  3. Plagiarism is something of someone else’s, something that is presented as one’s own idea and work, when in fact it is not. Plagiarism is present in our country, especially in education. Pupils and students use plagiarism to make their work easier, they use hard work that they present as their own.The most common types of plagiarism are: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism. Plagiarism can be avoided primarily by introducing practices in regular classes so that students are introduced and asked what plagiarism is, what can happen to them in their careers if they use other people's work, and everything that follows if someone uses their works. I think this type of "fraud" could be prevented or solved by professors using plagiarism programs and thus checking the work of students. I am sure that this would reduce the prevalence of the use of plagiarism because no one wants to find themselves in that situation of being accused of taking something from someone else.
    I absolutely believe that plagiarism should be punished, plagiarism is equal to stealing someone's identity. Representing something as one's own is equal to presenting oneself as someone else. Although I believe that the use of plagiarism for school should not have major consequences such as legal penalties, but certainly that teachers should tell the student but that this type of punishment does not go beyond the educational institution. I think it would be unnecessary for a student to be prosecuted for plagiarism. The consequences need to be felt but this can be addressed within the educational institution.

  4. Plagiarism is the act of appropriating the written papers of another person and presenting them as one's own. We can view plagiarism as stealing and passing on someone else's ideas or words as our own; using someone else's work without citing the source or author; the act of stealing a literary work; presenting an already existing idea as something new and original; copying other people's words or ideas without acknowledging merit; non-use of quotation marks at the place of citation; giving misinformation about the source of the citation; changing the words in the sentence so that the context remains the same, without citing the source; use images from other sites without citing sources; making a video using parts of someone else's recordings or freely using copyrighted music; composing music that uses parts of another composition.
    There are several different types of plagiarism that are ranked by severity as follows:
    1. Cloning- Lecturing someone else's work, every word use as your own;
    2. Copying- The paper contains a large dose of copied text without citing the author or source;
    3. Find and replace - Modify keywords and phrases while retaining the essence of the original text;
    4. Remix - Paraphrasing with multiple sources so that everything "fits" without citing the author/source;
    5. Hybrid- Combining cited parts with unquoted parts;
    6. Puree - Copying material from multiple sources;
    7. Error 404- Citation from non-existent or incorrect sources.
    8. Aggregators - The paper contains appropriate citations (sources are not non-existent), but the paper contains almost no original ideas.
    We, students, can commit plagiarism without even being aware of it. Some of the tips on how to avoid plagiarism are 1. Consult a professor if there are any ambiguities about writing the paper; 2. Make a work plan because with adequate preparation and work plan, we will not forget to quote; 3. Extracting notes from the literature; 4. If you are not sure if you should quote - then quote (if you are not sure if you came up with an idea on your own, or it is the result of what you read with small corrections - state the author or source); 5. Write what someone said; 6. Learn to paraphrase (paraphrasing means expressing someone else's idea in your own words; 7. Assess the sources of information (what is a good source, what conditions it must meet to rely on it, etc.)
    Plagiarism is an act of deception, whatever its form and level. It should not be avoided only because it is not according to the law, but also because of moral reasons: because of respect for oneself and others. Second, because that person has invested a lot of effort and time in the work. And ourselves, because we learn during the research of a topic and making a paper will be of great use to us in later life, and it is extremely important that we acknowledge and accept someone's work and success.

  5. Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work or borrowing someone else's original ideas.One of the definition about plagiarism is that plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement.

    There are several types of plagiarism, some of which are: Verbatim (word for word) quotation without clear acknowledgement; Cutting and pasting from the Internet without clear acknowledgement; Paraphrasing; Inaccurate citation; Failure to acknowledge assistance; Auto-plagiarism and many other species.
    For me plagiarism is crime. There are many reasons for that my opinion, one but also the main reason is that someone makes something, invest their effort and then a person comes and just take that like it is own.I don't support plagiarism that happens on purpose. There may be cases when a student or someone else doesn't know that they have committed plagiarism and this is justified.

    I think professors should talk more about this “problem”. This is a topic about which we need and must be informed more and much earlier than in the period when we come to college.

  6. Plagiarism is an interesting topic and there is a lot to discuss about. I think the main problem with plagiarism is that people don’t look at it as a theft, and shurely it is. In our school system the focus is on the grade and a lot of students feel pressure to do well in short period of time, and maybe it is all part of challenging students and challenges are always good but sometimes it creates toxic environment. I think we need to, from the early age, plant this idea in our student heads that plagiarism is something bad and shameful. We need to educate them on how to recall on someone else’s work and properly credit them. People need to understand that they don’t sound smarter when they take someone else’s work, they just sound ignorant and lazy.

  7. Plagiarism, as already mentioned, is theft. In essence, just as theft of things (clothes, groceries, etc.) and money is understood as a crime, so should the theft of words be treated.
    Not just written words, but thoughts as well. I think it’s something that people do consciously. The fact that you have to work hard for certain things, you also have to work hard to find what you like, and what is related to the topic you are working on at the moment. This involves researching, reading, copying, or copying specific topics. Similar effort is required to write something on your own. According to research, websites and various articles, the common types of plagiarism are; direct plagiarism; self plagiarism; mosaic plagiarism; and accidental plagiarism.
    Nowadays, there are various applications, primarily to help with the formation of certain sentences, to make the sentences sound more sophisticated. And then, to check whether writing a certain article implies taking over someone's work, more precisely checking plagiarism. Unfortunately, students decide for this step since their self-confidence is not at a high level. They believe that this is an easier step and that it will be easier and better. As I say, easier way out is never a good way out.
    Stopping this act may involve primarily encouraging students. Encouraging that independent work will be rewarded. That what they say cannot be considered as ''not enough, not good'' or insufficiently valuable.
    Teachers should encourage creativity and reward creativity. Sometimes independent work, work on your own, especially if we encounter something new can be scary.
    But also, there is the other side of this. Letting the students know that if you decide to take this step and act that way, there will be consequences. I believe that crimes must be punished. Just as criminals are punished for stealing money, so should people who steal other people's words and thoughts be punished. Therefore, people will take this more seriously, and then certain literary, other people's words, ideas and thoughts will gain in value.

  8. I don't have a lot to say about this topic because I don't have much experience in this field. I'm just gonna say this: Copyright should be there for everything, even on a small picture or a few words because after all it is someones individual and hard work there.

  9. Plagiarism is the topic that's most important for students. In our student days, we do a lot of scientific researches so we need to work hard and use a lot of literature. For our work, marking citation and sources is very important. We need to give credits to people we took work from. We get inspired by their words. How can we not give them credits??
    I wouldn't say plagiarism is a crime, but it is pretty bad to use someone elses work and just pretend it's yours. Using plagiarism we only insult our intelligency. There should be consequences like paying for copyright violation or maybe that consequence can be turned into something good. Perhaps like taking a one-month volunteer work with the owner and learning to write our work without using plagiarism.

  10. Plagiarism is the theft and borrowing of someone else’s ideas or words as their respective mowing of someone else’s work without citing the source. There are different types of plagiarism and some of them are
    1. Direct plagiarism is the act of copying another word of a working word for a word.
    2. Paraphrasing plagiarism involves making a few changes to someone else's work and then forwarding it as your own
    3. “Mosaic” plagiarism is a combination of direct and paraphrasing plagiarism. This type involves throwing different words, phrases, and sentences (some word for word, some paraphrases) into your essay, without quoting or attributing it.
    4. Accidental plagiarism occurs when citations are missing or sources are misquoted.

    Plagiarism infringes copyright. My opinion is that it is very ugly to use someone’s effort and time invested in some work as our own.Therefore, plagiarism should be stopped
    Plagiarism can therefore be avoided in the following way
    • any text that you quote literally in your work and that is not your own opinion should be in quotes;
    • all selected materials should be included in the list of sources, even if you do not use some of them; it is always easier to remove a source that has not been used from the list than to look for information about it later, after a few months, when you no longer have it at hand;
    • when quoting, follow the rules set by your university;
    • Write the text of the paper in your own words and do not copy it literally from books.

  11. Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. Plagiarism might not be the same in all countries. Some countries, such as India and Poland, consider plagiarism to be a crime, and there have been cases of people being imprisoned for plagiarizing. In other instances plagiarism might be the complete opposite of "academic dishonesty," in fact some countries find the act of plagiarizing a professional's work flattering. Students who move to the United States from countries where plagiarism is not frowned upon often find the transition difficult. There are many reasons to avoid plagiarism. You have come to university to learn to know and speak your own mind, not merely to reproduce the opinions of others - at least not without attribution. At first it may seem very difficult to develop your own views, and you will probably find yourself paraphrasing the writings of others as you attempt to understand and assimilate their arguments. However it is important that you learn to develop your own voice. Slowing plagiarism, though, can be a goal. It's critical for educators, to teach students the very real worth of researching and writing their own work. And it's important to make students and other would-be plagiarizers understand, that both sides lose when someone tries to take credit for another person's work, words or ideas.

    We can avoid plagiarism by reading or researching about specific topic that much enough to have our own opinion so we don't need to use someone else's words or ideas to do something like writing an articles, research publications or master thesis.
    Probably we can reduce plagiarism in schools and universities by checking every time when students have to do something like writing essay, creating ideas and so. If we notice that they are using someone else's words, work or ideas we can explain them meaning of plagiarism and consequences of it. Also, we should try to explain them how to avoid plagiarism.

  16. Plagiarisam is a word for describing a situation when we are stealing ideas, words or something else from others. For me, in one word, plagiarisam is cheating. Also, it's a situation when someone says that something is his/hers own original product but it's not. Plagiarisam can occur in many forms. Some of them are: when someone don't say source of sentence or paragraph, when someone don't use quotation marks, then options copy-paste, using others pictures without citing sources and so on. I can avoid plagiarisam with using quotation marks when I quote other people's words, citing sources, don't using options copy-paste and so on. If we want to stop plagiarisam in schools and universities first we need to talk more with students about this problem. Also, we need to teach them to create their own thinking and ideas. For me, plagiarisam is stealing and it should be a crime. Two of the same situations are when you steal something from others (material things) and when you steal their words, works or ideas. You are a thief anyway.

  17. Plagiarism is the theft of other people's texts, quotes, speeches. I believe that plagiarism should be punishable, one that is done intentionally, but that plagiarism that is unintentional should not be punished. When we use other people's texts, quotes, we need to state who their author is and thus protect ourselves, also when we paraphrase others. A lot of people use plagiarism in their work, it's the same as stealing other people's things and appropriating them as personal. We must make an effort to build our own thoughts, to learn more, to appreciate ourselves more, to build ourselves, so that we have as little need as possible to appropriate other people's texts.

  18. Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or unintentional. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.

    Students will benefit from taking an online course which has been developed to provide a useful overview of the issues surrounding plagiarism and practical ways to avoid it.

    The necessity to acknowledge others’ work or ideas applies not only to text, but also to other media, such as computer code, illustrations, graphs etc. It applies equally to published text and data drawn from books and journals, and to unpublished text and data, whether from lectures, theses or other students’ essays. You must also attribute text, data, or other resources downloaded from websites.

    The best way of avoiding plagiarism is to learn and employ the principles of good academic practice from the beginning of your university career. Avoiding plagiarism is not simply a matter of making sure your references are all correct, or changing enough words so the examiner will not notice your paraphrase; it is about deploying your academic skills to make your work as good as it can be.

    Plagiarism is a breach of academic integrity. It is a principle of intellectual honesty that all members of the academic community should acknowledge their debt to the originators of the ideas, words, and data which form the basis for their own work. Passing off another’s work as your own is not only poor scholarship, but also means that you have failed to complete the learning process. Plagiarism is unethical and can have serious consequences for your future career; it also undermines the standards of your institution and of the degrees it issues.

  19. How can we prevent / stop plagiarism in schools and universities?

    -by paying more attention to the process than to the end result. We can achieve this by knowing the student and his abilities. Assignments, lecture activities will help us in this and the student's attention can show us whether a good grade is the result of his work or someone else's. Tests may involve much more critical thinking than usual tests. Questions that relate only to a theory that can be learned from a single book or a task that can be plagiarism do not help students learn something new, nor do professors to evaluate them relevantly.
    Educators need to show a desire to monitor the process of creating a result, and not just be focused on evaluating the results. It arouses in students a desire for plagiarism, because they will certainly get only a plus or some grade, and they will not get inner satisfaction nor will they notice that they are able to acquire a new skill.

  20. Plagiarism is copying someone else’s words, and presenting them as our own. Many people don’t look at that as a problem and that’s exactly the reason why plagiarism is used so much nowadays. People are stealing word and thoughts of other people and they don’t have a problem with that, and for me that’s the biggest problem because people think that it’s okay to do something like that. I think that plagiarism is not something that we should use. I don’t see a problem with people having similar thoughts, but saying or writing the same exact thing as someone else is a problem. All of us should have our own thoughts. We all have our own minds so we can think of the topic differently. A “ copy-paste” from others is not okay. We have to learn to have our own ideas and thoughts. Some of the things that we can do to avoid plagiarism is crediting the original author and adding our own ideas to some of the quotes from our sources. Plagiarism by itself is not a crime but it can be punished for violation of moral rights, witch is not okay. So do your best not to be this type of “criminal” and have your own thoughts.

  21. Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

    According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:
    to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
    to use (another's production) without crediting the source
    to commit literary theft
    to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
    In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.

    But can words and ideas really be stolen?
    According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

    All of the following are considered plagiarism:
    turning in someone else's work as your own
    copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
    failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
    giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
    changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
    copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)
    Most cases of plagiarism can be avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material has been borrowed and providing your audience with the information necessary to find that source is usually enough to prevent plagiarism. See our section on citation for more information on how to cite sources properly.

    What about images, videos, and music?
    Using an image, video or piece of music in a work you have produced without receiving proper permission or providing appropriate citation is plagiarism. The following activities are very common in today’s society. Despite their popularity, they still count as plagiarism.

    Copying media (especially images) from other websites to paste them into your own papers or websites.
    Making a video using footage from others’ videos or using copyrighted music as part of the soundtrack.
    Performing another person’s copyrighted music (i.e., playing a cover).
    Composing a piece of music that borrows heavily from another composition.
    Certainly, these media pose situations in which it can be challenging to determine whether or not the copyrights of a work are being violated. For example:

    A photograph or scan of a copyrighted image (for example: using a photograph of a book cover to represent that book on one’s website)
    Recording audio or video in which copyrighted music or video is playing in the background.
    Re-creating a visual work in the same medium. (for example: shooting a photograph that uses the same composition and subject matter as someone else’s photograph)
    Re-creating a visual work in a different medium (for example: making a painting that closely resembles another person’s photograph).
    Re-mixing or altering copyrighted images, video or audio, even if done so in an original way.
    The legality of these situations, and others, would be dependent upon the intent and context within which they are produced. The two safest approaches to take in regards to these situations is: 1) Avoid them altogether or 2) Confirm the works’ usage permissions and cite them properly.

    Research shows that there are different types of plagiarism such as: direct, self, mosaic and random plagiarism. In fact, there are a few very simple ways to avoid this problem, such as: quoting a source, including quotes, paraphrases, presenting an original idea, or using a plagiarism check.
    To prevent / stop plagiarism, we can use some methods such as: submitting handwritten papers and discussing it in the early stages of education.
    In my opinion, plagiarism is an illegal act and should be punished by a fine or a fine or expelled from the road they are leaving

  23. Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. Plagiarism is applicable for writing or website articles, but it is also applicable in stealing intellectual property like music, images, videos, and even choreography of a dance. Plagiarism can fail a piece of work trying to serve its primary purpose. While artwork or writing is considered successful if it reaches the audience, plagiarism takes away the credibility of the work, and the artist or writer’s message fails to reach the audience. Therefore, the students or artists must not plagiarise, neither deliberately not accidentally. As per the plagiarism definition, plagiarism means stealing intellectual property or intellectual fraud. When you use parts of writing or artwork without crediting the original writer or artist, then plagiarized work is considered. The meaning of plagiarism has changed gradually with time.
    Nowadays, it is effortless to find plagiarized contents, many students tend to change the parts of the work or substitute words with synonyms. This is also a form of plagiarism. Therefore, a student or writer must be careful about plagiarising any article. It is better to work on fresh ideas, and if you are willing to substantiate your opinion, you must use proper quotation marks and citations.

    It can be intentional or unintentional.
    I think that in these days plagiarism is used in more than 50 percent works. It is illegal but I wouldn’t call it a crime, because that is a hard word, but it should be punished.

  25. Well, I think plagiarism some sort of way is a steal. But sometimes, in life it's hard not to do it. Many high school or primary school students do it without even knowing that it's something wrong. Many teachers do it without realizing what they did . I think we should talk about it more in school and first, teachers should be taught how to prevent it so they could teach kids/ students how to prevent it. Using quotation marks is a good way to avoid plagiarism. However, I believe that there is an intentional form of plagiarism. Some people would purposly steal someone else's work and present it as their own. In my opinion that form of plagiarism should be punished in some way. It's not a crime as a murder so people should go in jail for it, but I think their punishment should maybe be paying a good amount of money for what they did ( if it's something they did purposly). So in my opinion, teachers in school should pay more attention, and should teach kids how to properly use material they found on internet. They should teach kids how to present their own ideas and sentences (of course after some of them learn it themselves). Plagiarism is something people should become  more aware of. Mia Vizdal RN2

  26. Plagiarism is actually theft, appropriation of things, words or anything else that is not our property. Very often this happens everywhere in the world. People sometimes don’t even realize it when they do it, and some do it very consciously. If on social media we want to share an excerpt from a book, for example, or a photo from the Internet, a quote, a source of opinion, etc., it is important to know how to use it properly. So, putting quotation marks at the beginning and end, then signing the author of that work, by name and surname or initials. If we don’t know whose it is, and we found it on the internet, it’s okay to write below that the author is unknown to us, but never leave it and don’t pretend it’s ours. Plagiarism is becoming more widespread, because it is easier for people to copy something than to design it themselves.
    I hope that over time we will become more aware of what a move this is when it comes to plagiarism and that we will do our best to work on our ideas, thoughts and motivations.

  28. "Plagiarism is the act of appropriating the written works of others and presenting them as one's own. This type prevails closely related to forgery and piracy, actions that lead to copyright infringement. There are several different types of plagiarism that are ranked by severity:
    1. Cloning - Teaching someone else's work, word for word, as your own.
    2. Copy - The paper contains a large dose of text copied with one source (without modification).
    3. Find and Replace - Change keywords, phrases while retaining the essence of the original text.
    4. Remix - Paraphrasing with multiple sources, so that everything is removed.
    5. Recycling - Published lending from previous work on the topic of statelessness.
    We can avoid plagiarism by first understanding the meaning of the word. After that, we need to get acquainted with the topic. If we understand a given topic, we will find it easier to describe our words than someone else’s. Try to understand the material in several ways. When it comes to student misconduct, plagiarism of others occupies a prominent place even though it is set as part of the standard procedure of writing papers. Plagiarism is not punished, I think I should. It steals and should be a crime, primarily copyright.

  29. There are many definitions of plagiarism, and most often we understand it as stealing other people’s words and presenting them as our own. In addition, plagiarism is the theft of other people's ideas. We do not necessarily have to plagiarize existing texts and theories. It often happened that people stole someone's ideas, they saw a good opportunity in business advancement, so when someone confided in them, they pilfer it and plagiarize that idea and that person's plan. There are many reasons why people plagiarize other people's work. It can be from one’s own insecurities, a lack of self-confidence, and it can also be from malice. I think plagiarism should be treated as lying and cheating, also as theft. More should be said about plagiarism because many people are not even aware that they are committing this crime, for example when they copy a seminar paper for college, or when they write or talk about a topic and say what someone has already said, and do not emphasize quoting but present it as their own opinion. Often people hate to do something new, so they just use something already done without thinking about it being theft. I think that people should be made aware that their honest opinion and commitment is much better and more valuable than the one which is stolen. That way, everyone would rather express their ideas than steal and use someone else's. That way we would put an end to plagiarism.

  30. Plagiarism, in short, is any kind of theft of other people's ideas, thoughts, creations, etc. Just as we have material property, there is also intellectual property. The law should be same for both. Plagiarism most often occurs in schools, faculties and similar institutions when writing an assignment, seminar work or similar. In my opinion, the main reason for this is that students do not know the purpose of the seminar paper. The main task of the teacher should be to explain the role of seminar work to students. They should be aware that no one expects from students to present someone else’s ideas or theories. The main purpose of seminar paper should be that students express their own opinions, ideas and conclusions they came up during research. In that case, students will state an opinion of other's that they agree with or they like but they will not present it as their own. In addition, they have to understand that their opinion is important and they should not blindly follow other people’s ideas or opinions. We are all individuals and we have to have our own point of view for everything. Science and technology improves every day and we come up with new ideas and solutions for same problems. It would not happen if everyone just followed the first person who invented something. Therefore, emphasizing new ideas and developing one's own opinion should be the main mission of all teachers but also students.
    I think that after being educated about plagiarism many people would stop doing it or they will realize how wrong it is. Many people are not even aware that they are committing a crime. However if they would continue to do so then I consider some kind of punishment is necessary.

  31. Plagiarism is a very common occurrence especially in faculties. When preparing different assigments (seminar paper, master thesis, presentations, etc.), students often reach for different sources but they do not state them. Therefore, they often present someone else's work as their own, which is, of course, wrong. Besides that, the biggest problem is that students have no knowledge and awareness of plagiarism itself. Most often, they actually do not consider it as something wrong or so serious. The most common mistake is when students paraphrase someone else's idea and do not cite the source.
    Before thinking about punishment, because plagiarism is theft, it is necessary to think about how much knowledge we have about plagiarism itself. We should try to present plagiarism as a bad occurrence in society that limits not just intellectual but human development in general. I think students should be encouraged to be original from the earliest school days and the importance of their own opinion should be pointed out. We can do that very easily through various workshops, and even through debates in older classes.

  32. Plagiarism is stealing or passing of ideas, words or creations as our own. There are many forms of plagiarism but some of the most common forms of plagiarism are submitting someone else's work as our, rewriting someone's work without properly citing sources, using quotations without citing the source and more. These forms of plagiarism are always used by students and even professors. We can avoid plagiarism with properly citing sources and with the help of plagiarism checker apps. Nowadays there are many apps that recognize plagiarism. How can we prevent using of plagiarism?
    First, we should explain to students what is plagiarism and why is that a crime. If they continue to steal someone's work or ideas, we can prevent plagiarism in schools by giving students a bad grade for plagiarism. Plagiarism is crime and there must be some kind of punishment for using it.

  33. Plagiarism is stealing someones ideas or quotes and presenting them as our own.
    It is ok to have similar or even same ideas like someone else, but it is not ok to quote exactly what someone else said without saying who is the author. Plagiarism, by my opinion, is same like stealing some material goods from someone. I think that is even worse, because we steal someones product of creativity and intellect.
    Intentional plagiarism should definitely be ilegal. I think the best way to prevent plagiarism is to aply some material punishments. Or course, we first have to be sure something is coppied by purpose. Plagiarism is a really bad thing and it definitely should be ilegal and punishable.

  36. All students many times have heard the comments like „It's pure plagiarism“. Today people are accustomed to getting all things served on hand, because it is easier for everyone to take advantage of other ideas, opinions and theories than to spend their time to research. In every case, plagiarism is not okay because it represents the theft of someone's creativity and effort, but I could not call it like a crime, because crime means a lot worse. Plagiarism is everywhere, especially in media. With the help of plagiarism, media house earn a lot of money. Because people have to be very carefully in research on Internet. Many people do plagiarism because they do not have enough knowledge of academic writting, so I believe that they do this by chance. One of the reasons for plagiarism may be that professor is not interested in helping students in his work. That is why because we as teacher need to prevent plagiarism and teach children critical thinking and intellectual development by using their own abilities, ideas and creativity. 37. Plagiarism is representation of another person's work. It is not only the exact copying of words, but the thoughts or ideas. It is easy to copy and paste from the internet or retype directly from a source.
    Plagiarism is becoming a more noticeable problem in high schools and universities around the world. With plagiarism students are becoming lazier and less interested in learning. Many plagiarism cases are the result of a lack of self-confidence and also if someone is less interested.
    Being caught plagiarizing certainly hurts your reputation and you might lose your job. So, to avoid that awkward feeling, we don’t need to use someone’s work.
    It is important to mention that plagiarism detection programs also exist today and these programs are tools that locate cases of plagiarism in a text document.
    The conclusion is that it is important to learn to properly cite a source when using someone else's work. And I think that every teacher should warn students about plagiarism and properly explain what is plagiarism.

Discover various examples of plagiarism so you can be sure to avoid this serious problem. Students can commit plagiarism, but so can anyone who produces any type of writing.

  39. Plagiarism is the act of appropriating or copying someone else’s written, artistic or other creative work into one’s own, whether it is a specific part or in its entirety, without citing the original authorship or the original. Unlike forgery, in which the authenticity of an act is questionable, plagiarism is an illegal and unethical appropriation of another's act, which is presented as one's own. "
    There are different types of plagiarism and they all represent a serious violation of academic integrity. The most common types of plagiarism are:
    • complete plagiarism,
    • plagiarism based on sources,
    • direct plagiarism,
    • car or self-plagiarism,
    • paraphrasing plagiarism,
    • incorrect authorship,
    • mosaic plagiarism and
    • accidental plagiarism
    I think we can avoid plagiarism by starting to write our works based on some of our specific knowledge, using our words, our way of expressing ourselves. Also, plagiarism can be avoided by citing the sources from which we downloaded some text and the name of the person from whom we downloaded it. To avoid plagiarism we can read some particular material and present it as we understood it, with our sentence construction.
    We can prevent plagiarism by making students aware of the meaning of plagiarism, its misuse and that it is a form of cheating or theft. We also need to teach them about the risks of literal copying, about the difference between paraphrasing ideas and literal copying from the internet. We should also teach them appropriate reference techniques, especially for sources downloaded from the Internet. We need to draw their attention to using only reliable sources of information. What is very important is to help students understand that as academic citizens they must professionally prepare their papers taking into account all the details.
    Plagiarism is a crime because we take something that is someone else's work and we do not ask for the author's permission and we do not state from whom we took it, but we state that it is our words. Yes, it helps us a lot, but it does not give us the right to abuse it, but if we already use it, we should also state where we took it from

There are different types of plagiarism. The most common forms of plagiarism are direct plagiarism, self plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism, accidental plagiarism. I think plagiarism is serious crime,because people spend too much time thinking, writing, and someone just think that they have the right to just come in and steal that ideas. Undetected plagiarized work may result in higher grades of students. But if they detect you will get the lowest grade for work. To prevent plagiarism I think there should be stricter measures. 44. Plagiarism is a common phenomenon that occurs in large numbers when talking about books, the Internet, photos, songs and all other fields of our daily lives. Chances are that each of us has participated in plagiarism at least once without realising it. We must understand that "stealing" other people's quotes and words from books, photos, poems is as well as stealing material things. Those words, quotes, photos, verses of songs were created, conceived by someone and it is his property that we should not appropriate as our own because it is not our work, but the work of other people. People deceive by copying and borrowing other people's things, they do not turn out to be thieves, but give themselves the right to take someone else's property, and they do not understand that every original is better than any copy. In my opinion, some people participate in global plagiarism and know what they are doing, while other people are not educated enough and may not even know the meaning of the word plagiarism. For these reasons, education is needed in primary and secondary schools, but also at the faculty in order for professors to influence young people and spread plagiarism, because young people participate in seminar and graduation theses in which they can present something as if it were theirs. If we are not sure about certain things while writing our papers, we can always consult with professors and ask them for additional literature, and not use someone elses seminar, graduation or diploma theses. It is a way to prevent or alleviate plagiarism in school or college. The conclusion is that plagiarism is really a kind of theft that should be punished in order to reduce the number of people who borrow and take other people's works and creations.

  49. Plagiarism is stealing like any other. Someone steals someone's work and effort and presented as his own. If this isn't stealing, then what is? Here in our country and region we don't talk much about this theme and I think that this isn't good for us and our future generation. Unfortunately, I think that we aren't aware how important plagiarism is. We don't understand that plagiarism is stealing even if we say it is stealing. Nobody of us would like his work to be stolen. But we don't think about it until it happens. We have to talk about it more if we want to stop it. A lot of students unfortunately use someone's else work and presented as his own. Teachers don't give much attention to it so students use it and they don't see problems in that. A lot of student's works aren't original. In elementary school we are never talk about plagiarism and I think that this is wrong. Children have to know about plagiarism from the beginning of education. I saw one picture one day which speaks about this problem. Teacher said to their students that they can't use sentences from Wikipedia and presented like his own. Student came home and saw on Wikipedia sentence "Ivo Andrić je rođen 9. listopada 1892. godine." And then he just
    reformulated that sentence in " 1892. je bila godina rođenja Ive Andrića." In that moment this was funny for me, but if we think about it more deep this isn't funny anymore. I think that plagiarism also affects our critical thinking because often we don't think about some theme, we just copy some other opinion.

  50. Plagiarism is a form of stealing someone's actions, ideas, thoughts, words, and the like. We present ourselves that we are the owners of the same, but actually, we aren't. There are several types of plagiarism and some of them are:
    1. Direct plagiarism;
    2. Paraphrase plagiarism;
    3. "Mosaic" plagiarism;
    4. Accidental plagiarism ...
    If we look at today we will see that this is very much used around us except that in our area it is not as current a topic as it is in western countries. In our area, it is normal to take a seminar paper from the website and copy it and just change your data and present it as our work. It is a form of plagiarism that is most common among students and pupils. Pupils get used to it from the beginning of making their independent works, which has a bad effect on the pupil and his progress. Independent work is there for us to develop our skills and to research, read and not just copy and finish. Both teachers and parents need to pay attention to this topic and to develop from a young age in a child the feeling that plagiarism is a form of theft. It is necessary to talk to the children as much as possible on this topic. But we also have plagiarisms present and used in the field of the work, the statement. In some countries in the west, plagiarism presents great crime and in that case, we are subject to lawsuits, but in our country, it is not so. I think plagiarism is a crime, because why "steal" someone's words, ideas, work, and his efforts when we can do it all ourselves if not better than he/she. It is necessary to post your works on verified websites if it is necessary if not, then it is best that our work reaches only the appropriate person. On the Internet, everything is available to everyone, without exception. Also, I think when we realize that some of our work, ideas, copied and presented to his/her we would feel frustrated because all our effort and work collapsed and was presented as someone's not ours. I think this is exactly how every person whose word, effort, the idea is stolen feels. Let's be more confident, ambitious, creative, and present our ideas, words in our unique way without looking for someone else.

    1. Dear Elma, I have to say that we are not aware of how much we steal someone else’s work on a daily basis and that is a terrible fact. We have to know that it is easier just copy someone's words and pretending that it is ours but we have to be honest and righteous. We have to make an effort and write our thoughts, our attitudes because that is the only way we can progress and call ourselves highly educated people.

  51. Plagiarism is something very often nowadays. Many people use it not even knowing it`s not right. Because it is available, a lot of them think the autors name doesn`t matter and that they shouldn`t put their name if they borrow it. It is not okay. Someones effort is in there, time and a lot of research, we need to respect that and be more supportiv to someones success. The least we can do is to put their name. From my perspective, the real work is when we put ourselves in it, make some research, our conclusions, we learn something from it. That is successful work. But if we "do" some work by stealing it from others we don`t get anything from it, just troubles.

  52. Plagiarism represents a tendency to literary theft and illicit appropriation of someone else's spiritual property. To plagiarize means to steal and convey other people’s words and thoughts and use as your own. Stealing someone else's intellectual property and using it as one's own is a violation of academic integrity and moral rights. The most common types of plagiarism are: outright plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, outright plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, incorrect authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism. We can avoid plagiarism by developing our own imagination, using our own intellect. In that way, we develop our personality and become unique. Professors at universities and schools should give importance to plagiarism. Various seminars and lectures on plagiarism would contribute to the development of students' personalities as well as to the theft of someone else's idea. It is immoral to steal someone’s ideas, someone’s effort and work so plagiarism should be punishable to prevent the theft of someone else’s ideas and to influence the development of one’s own imagination in each individual.

  53. "Plagiarism" is very interesting topic. 📖📒✏
    Using someone else’s text without attribution is plagiarism. For students, plagiarism often means a failing grade, academic probation, or worse. The main problem about plagiarism is that there is not enough education about it, and so many people really don't know how much negative results plagiarism brings.
    I think that It is the most important thing.
    Primarily, students have to learn some important facts about plagiarism, beacuse grade is not the only important thing, and I think that education about plagiarism is the most important way to stop or reduce it.

  54. Plagiarism is stealing other people’s words, ideas and works and passing them off as your own. As opposed to what we know, written works aren’t the only ones plagiarized. Artworks may be subject to the act of art plagiarism, too. Plagiarists copy sketches, paintings, photos, and even sculptures. When you copy someone else’s art without consent or credit—you are stealing. Journalism ethics are based on professional conduct, morality and the truth and failing to follow these fundamental principles can lead to misrepresenting or misleading members of the public. Plagiarism is considered a serious violation of journalistic ethics.

  55. Plagiarism is using someone else’s work or ideas and presenting them as if they were your own, without their consent, by putting it into your work without full acknowledgement. Some forms of plagiarism include: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, self plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, and so on. We can avoid plagiarism by acknowledging that we are using the work from others and by citing sources. We can prevent this problem in schools and universities by holding simple, informative classes where we would learn what exactly is plagiarism and how to begin citing sources. We should also put effort into creating our own work from reading someone else's. The copy-paste method is definitely not the way to creating the best work possible, with the exception of citations and similar forms of text.The truth is, many of us don't fully understand plagiarism, and that is in my opinion one of the main problems and reasons why we get in trouble for using someone else's work. I agree that plagiarism is stealing and that there should be some consequences for it. I, myself wouldn't be very happy if I saw someone using my work without mentioning that it is indeed mine. Because it takes a lot of time and effort to create a work of your own. On the other hand, I don't think that plagiarism should be treated as an unforgivable crime. There are many, far worse crimes to commit in this world. In conclusion we should definitely ensure that we educate ourselves, and everybody else on ways to avoid plagiarism and to be aware that stealing someone else's work is not right.

  56. Plagiarism is using someone else's work or words and claiming they are ours. We can prevent plagiarism so easily by giving credit to the owner of paragraphs or pictures we use. Putting text in quotation marks or putting a valid source we found the material on. Preventing plagiarism can only be done by raising awareness on what it actually is and the consequences it can have. I think stealing someone's work in any form should be a crime, not necessarily punished by jail type of crime, but I think there should be a punishment or a fine people who do it have to pay.

  57. Plagiarism is representation of another author's words, ideas etc.
    Types of plagiarism: direct plagiarism, paraphrased plagiarism, accidental plagiarism, complete plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism and others.
    We could avoid plagiarism by controling ourselves not to do that. We should respect words, work, ideas of other people and try to not steal it. Instead of stealing we should try to make something that will represent us , we should use our own words and ideas for something.
    We should put more effort in our own work or words than use someone elses without sayin real authors name.
    I don't think plagiarism should be treated as a big crime but there should be some kind of punishment for using someone elses ideas.
    We should learn in schools that plagiarism is not okay and spread awarness about plagiarism, we should educate people about that.
    Plagiarism can cause many problems.
    Using someone elses ideas as yours will never be right.

  58. Plagiarism is presenting someone elses work as our own. Most common kind of plagiarism is simple copying word from some other work and that is called direct plagiarism. Teachers can recognize that is not their students word.
    We can avoid it by forming students imagination and sense for writing from early ages, so they would not be tempted to do that. And also, we will help them to get sense of right and wrong, so they would not steal achievements of other.
    Plagiarism is stealing because you are stealing someones ideas quite literally, and it is same like stealing someones posessions like money, etc. It should be definitely punishable like other crimes, with a fine or discrediting the person who tried to plagiarise.

  59. Plagiarism is stealing other people’s words and ideas and passing them off as your own. Plagiarism is a serious offense. At the university level it will usually get you an F on your assignment. If you plagiarize repeatedly you may even get kicked out of the institution.
    Outside the academy, the penalties vary. Being caught plagiarizing certainly hurts your reputation and you might lose your job. But you shouldn’t obey the law just to avoid getting caught. If you value original thought, personal integrity, and scholarly research, then you will naturally want to avoid plagiarism. That’s why it’s important to cite your sources and know how to integrate quotations properly.

  60. Plagiarism is a form of academic misconduct in which you represent someone else's words or ideas as your own. The basic expectation in every class is that whatever you write will be your own words, generated from your own understanding. The important part of a writing assignment is the opportunity to learn and grow. Plagiarism defeats the purpose of writing assignments, plagiarism is a form of lying, also destroys mutual respect and diminish the value of someones work.
    Therefore, be original and not a copy. Think, research, write and create!

  61. Is plagiarism a crime? Sure,I guess. It is a form of stealing,but let’s talk about our educational system a little bit.I can guarantee you that we could have taken a whole book of some writer and put it in our work and no one would know or care for that matter.This is only my personal opinion,but let’s say we are on a time crunch to finish something,we take a part of someones work,then we think:”Well there is no time to find out how to reference this”,or we haven’t been taught how to so we just don’t.Is it so bad? I mean if it is for a school paper I don’t think it is such a big deal,but for more serious work it’s a problem.Maybe if teachers were more strict about it we would think twice before doing that.I would not punish students for plagiarism but would teach them that it does mean stealing and that we could get in trouble for it and for more serious work there should be some financial retributions for plagiarism.

  62. Plagiarism is the use of other people's words and presentation as one's own. It is present in various fields, but mostly in the scientific field. We are all exposed to copying many articles, statements, texts from the Internet. Are we aware that we use plagiarism ourselves? Most probably won’t admit it, but it’s true and something we encounter on a daily basis. Of course, it is allowed to download other people's texts, sentences, but with the source from which we took it, otherwise we use plagiarism. Plagiarism is a crime.

  63. When students are given a specific task, such as writing based on a specific topic, they often seek help online. It wouldn’t be a problem for them to look at how others have done something, however the problem arises when a student copies and uses someone else’s words as their own. Which means the student stole someone’s work. The most common types of plagiarism are: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism. We can avoid plagiarism by reading a lot of books and building our vocabulary. We can read other works, but not use other people's words. We should strive for our works to be better, so that we can compare our work with other works.
    Teachers can recognize plagiarism, can type certain sentences on the internet and see whose thought it actually is. They can't be completely sure if it's plagiarism or not. If they are sure, such an act is punishable. It is therefore necessary to give the student an appropriate punishment. Plagiarism is a criminal offense because we use someone's words or steal. It would not be a theft if the author allowed us to use his words or if they put those words in quotation marks, that is, quoted. Of course, plagiarism will not be dealt with by the police, but certainly the school or faculty administration should take care of that. It should set certain penalties. So each individual would consider whether it is worth doing a punishment for plagiarism. In addition, I would certainly have to repeat my work so that I do not see the purpose of plagiarism.

  64. Plagiarism is actually hard to define and there are numerous definitions of it. According to one of them, plagiarism is the appropriation of other people’s works as one’s own. This type of fraud is closely linked to counterfeiting and piracy. Writing essays is often a novel and very demanding experience for students. Since plagiarism is not clearly defined, it is very easy for students to commit plagiarism without even being aware of it. The question is how to avoid this. Here are some tips for students: consult with professors, make a plan for writing an essay and always state who said what and where you took it from. Plagiarism is a criminal offense, being in fact the unauthorized use of copyrighted content, so there is no need for further discussion.

  65. Plegiarism is stealing and presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own. The most common forms of plagiarism are: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism. We can avoid plagiarism by creating awarness in people about it and for example by organizing some public speech about what plagiarism presents and how it's bad actually. When it comes to school plagiarism, I think that the most common type is accidental plagiarism. So to avoid it students have to be teached about writting skills, researching skills, referencing skills etc. So they have to be educated in how to avoid plagiarism. Also previous mantioned creating awarness in people also can be used in university and each proffesor have to let students know about strict prohibitions regarding plagiarism. If we says plagiarism is stealing and should be a crime, I think it depends. If someone stoled someone else's really important work regarding to science, someone else's new discovery that really means succes for the person I think it should be threated like a crime because it' s like stealing some important document.
    But if someone copys someone else' s words like to motivate people, speech that can arouse enthusiasm in other people, it shouldn't be a crime. Anyways people will understand if words are his or her own or maybe somone said that before. (Semina Nešust, II godina, Odsijek za edukaciju i rehabilitaciju).

    Plagiarism represents someone else's ideas as your own. It is so mean to represent someones hard work, we didnt achieve that. It is very bad because we don't achieve anything alone. If we are already studying, we must develop a spirit od researhing and we should be interested in what we are learning. What is the point if we rewrite everything. We need to know what we are doing. It is better to write less text and that it's original, than to copy other people. Plagiarism is considered as a violation od academic moral rights and it should be punished. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to teach children to be original, on their own, to work hard and explore. The best feeling is when we achieve something on their one and get praise for it.

  67. Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement.
    All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition. Plagiarism is a type of cheating that involves the use of another person's ideas, words, design, art, music, etc., as one's own in whole or in part without acknowledging the author or obtaining his or her permission. To plagiarize means to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft, to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Types of Plagiarism: complete plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, direct plagiarism, self or auto plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, mosaic plagiarism and accidental plagiarism. Coming up with all the information you want to include in your paper is not an easy task. There are also a lot of rules you have to follow. It is not as simple as simply taking information from a source and including it into your work. Plagiarism is a serious offence and it can result in your paper being thrown out. No one wants that to happen after putting in hours of work. It is equated to stealing, even if you did not do so intentionally. There are some good tips that can help us to avoid plagiarism. First of them is to start doing our tasks early enough, so we could have enough time. When you quote your references, you won’t be accused of plagiarism, so quote. Paraphrase. It will help a lot. Try and add some value to the topic by including some of your own insights. Another easy way to avoid plagiarism is to include a reference page at the end of your paper. Do it always. You have to present your own idea. For me, plagiarism may be of two types--intentional and unintentional. But, any way Plagiarism is a very serious problem to the academia. The eradication of it from the entire academia is an important issue and a big challenge before the experts.

  68. Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own.
    There are several types of plagiarism and some of them are:
    Global plagiarism-Presenting an entire text by someone else as your own work.
    Paraphrasing plagiarism-Rephrasing someone else’s ideas without citation.
    Verbatim plagiarism-Directly copying a passage of text without citation.
    Mosaic plagiarism-Combining text and ideas from different sources without citation.
    Self-plagiarism-Reusing passages and ideas from your own previously submitted work.
    Incorrect citation-Failing to give all the necessary information in your source citation.
    We can try to prevent plagiarism but we cant stop it from happening . The punishing of plagiarism is dpendent on the type of plagiarism .

  69. Plagiarism is using someone else's words, thoughts, ideas, work etc. as your own and without author's permission. There are few common plagiarism types and they are categorised as following: complete, source-based, direct, auto/self-plagiarism, mosaic, accidental, paraphrasing plagiarism and inaccurate authorship. Since plagiarism is really huge problem that people don't take seriously, it must be stopped. It is hard to completely remove it from people's work and mind, but avoiding it is at least trying not to colaborate in this crime. Avoiding plagiarism includes much researching, working, reading and being creative. You can see some good idea somewhere, but in order not to be one of the plagiators you must find another way and improve current knowledge so that you create something new and thus avoid plagiarism. Stopping it is really hard, but easiest way is checking each work using softwares that are created in manner of detecting plagiarism. Since everything is online now it is easier and faster to detect plagiarism. If it is found it shoud be punished in no time. Plagiarism is definitely one form of crime, because why making difference in stealing someone's car and stealing someone's idea or work? Not all types of plagiarism should be punished with the same punishment, but no type of plagiarism should pass unpunished.

  70. You can use a plagiarism checker yourself before submitting your paper. This allows you to identify any parts where you’ve forgotten a citation, left out quotation marks, or included a paraphrase that’s too close to the original text. Then you can follow the steps above to easily fix any instances of potential plagiarism.

  71. I think plagiarism is one of the leading problems in our education system. It has become normal to take someone’s work as your own, change a few little things and write your name instead of his. I think that this blame should be partly taken over by both, teachers and educators because they don't teach students how to write papers properly, but expect them to already know it. They need to pay more attention to teaching students to write papers correctly and to know how to use resources in the right way.

  72. Plagiarism means the act of appropriating or copying someone else's written, artistic or other creative work in itself or in its entirety, without citing the original authorship or the original. Unlike forgery, in which the authenticity of an act is questionable, plagiarism is an illegal and unethical description of another's work that is presented as one's own.
    How to avoid suspicion of plagiarism:

    any text that you quote literally in your work and that is not your own opinion should be in quotes;
    all selected materials should be included in the source list, even if you do not use some of them; it is always easier to remove a source that has not been used from the list than to look for information about it later, after a few months, when you no longer have it at hand;
    when quoting, follow the rules set by your university;
    write the text of the paper in your own words and do not copy it literally from books.
    As educational institutions become more stringent in their fight against plagiarism, read the rules for registration of work carefully and thoroughly in detail before writing the thesis, including the rules of citation adopted in your educational institution, and strictly follow them. In this way, the problem of plagiarism in the work will be solved by itself.

  73. Plagiarism can be a crime.
    Paraphrasing without citation is the most common type of plagiarism. Paraphrasing itself is not plagiarism so long as you properly cite your sources. However, paraphrasing becomes plagiarism when you read a source and then rewrite its key points as if they were your own ideas.

  74. In artistic world there is very well known and often cited quote from Picasso: “Good artists copy, great artists steal”. This quote is often used to be superficially understood and used to justify various forms of plagiarism and laziness to produce one’s own original work. But when someone really carefully observes what Picasso himself was actually doing, how he was creating some of his artworks, it becomes clear that he did not mean to literally propose stealing. Rather we see he was taking something (someone else’s work) as starting point, as inspiration and then transformed it using creativity into something new and quite original. This quote from Picasso was said to be favorite of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc. who himself was inspired by someone else’s work while doing his research for his original ideas.
    So what is plagiarism? In short, it is intentional or unintentional act of taking someone else’s original ideas or words and presenting them as one’s own. As Olivia Valdes (ThoughtCo.) writes, it is not that much of a problem if some specific idea we write about and not cite it is common knowledge. It becomes a huge problem when it is some original idea, since it is act of intellectual dishonesty. It was mentioned in texts and videos that there are different types of plagiarism and getting to know all of them is first step to avoid them and be on the right path to write or make something on our own and our own, even if it was built upon others’ cited and paraphrased ideas. Some of the steps to avoid plagiarism while writing academic paper is to dive deep into the subject matter and do detailed research so we have time to develop some original ideas. Olivia Valdes also suggests writing detailed outline, keeping track of our sources and careful citing. It is always recommended to use plagiarism checker, an online application or downloadable software. As any form of stealing, when done with intention, plagiarism as form of stealing of intellectual property should be adequately punished. In developed countries, where intellectual propriety matters even if it is not copyrighted, plagiarism at Universities is often punished with failing grade, suspension or expulsion. For example at level of higher education in Germany it is rule to check every written work with special software for plagiarism, so beside printed version, every work must be submitted also in digital version.

  75. My opinion on plagiarism is that it is a classic theft. There are different types of plagiarism that are a serious violation of academic integrity. The most common types of plagiarism are: outright plagiarism, source-based plagiarism, outright plagiarism, auto or self-plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, incorrect authorship, mosaic plagiarism, and accidental plagiarism. Plagiarists are less to blame for certain types, eg. accidental plagiarism is a type of plagiarism that is mostly common among students who may lack appropriate academic skills and education, so they use plagiarism to finish certain tasks. Of course I do not justify it, but the solution to such problems is enough to the way of schooling. From an early age, children should be taught not to use plagiarism. Children need to know that this is a type of theft, and that it is definitely considered a violation of academic integrity and moral rights. I believe that all kinds of plagiarism should be punishable, and that people should try harder and rely on themselves.
