Online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic: challenges and opportunities

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Covid-19 as a pandemic that has posed a contemporary threat to humanity. Among other things, this pandemic has forced schools and universities all over the world to switch to online teaching and learning as the only sustainable educational platform at this time of the crisis caused by the global spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Although online learning is not a novel discovery and it has been implemented in many schools, colleges and universities ever since 1980s, it has always been viewed from the perspective of good-to-have alternative but not a serious-mission model that guarantees consistency and steadiness of the instructional process at all levels of education. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced schools to close their doors and switch all instructional activities to online learning platforms as part of measures to maintain social distancing and slow down the transmission of Covid-19. Evidently, this has caused unexpected disruption of traditional teaching and learning models we used to have before the pandemic.

This digital transformation of instructional activities during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic has posed many challenges but also provided some new possibilities both for teachers and students. One of the biggest challenges both for institutions / teachers and students is the dependency of online learning on technological equipment and the provision of the equipment, i.e. instructors and students with bad internet connections and without appropriate technological devices are not able to access and participate in online learning. Furthermore, students with low socio-economic background are most vulnerable to fall behind or encounter additional challenges to meet up with others in online learning. Another problem for all might be the intrusion, i.e. the unexpected appearance or interruption of family members, friends or pets we live with in situations where online teaching/learning is in progress via videoconference or similar. Additionally, students and teachers with low digital competence might be liable to lack behind in the online mode of instruction. It is evident that the larger parts of instructors were not effectively ready to deliver high-quality instruction remotely and via digital learning platforms, but at the same time there are students with low digital competence who might find it difficult to make optimal utilization of digitalized learning activities and materials.

When it comes to online assessment and supervision, instructors are limited to proxy supervision of learners and it becomes almost an impossible mission to regulate and control cheating. Apart from that, it is also impossible to expect that all learners are getting the same learning experiences and chances through online learning during this pandemic. And finally, this digital transformation of the education process has imposed a huge workload on ICT units and institutions to build e-learning platforms and make sure that the system functions flawlessly all the time. Not to mention a heavy workload imposed on students and teachers in this newly transformed and digitalized education process.

On the other hand, it is important to mention that this online teaching and learning mode has its advantages as well, such as flexibility, interactivity, self-pacing and numerous opportunities for self-improvement and innovations. It seems that the longer the pandemic lasts, the more likely online learning becomes a generally acceptable mode of teaching and learning all over the world. Of course, it can never replace face-to-face instruction in classrooms and live social interaction between teachers and students, but it is evident that online learning will be sustained and education will become more hybrid and redesigned to fit the contemporary changes of the modern society.

  1. The current way of working suits me, because we always have everything at hand. When I say that, I mean accessories, many books, notes from before, the internet, and so on. It is interesting to do assignments and listen to lectures in our most beautiful corner. Online lessons motivate us, we help each other at the same time. Advantages of online learning: quality participation in classes, wide availability and a large number of participants in the conversation, the availability of audio and video recordings. Disadvantages of online teaching: technical support, greater responsibility.
Learning English is quite interesting through the platform. In addition to lessons, we use the Internet, assignments, videos. I think that teachers / professors are the same as students in the technology used. For them, as well as for us, all this is new. We became servants in thought, as in action, a machine we invented to serve us. Online teaching is not so reliable, there are a number of obstacles and difficulties that make it unreliable. Consequently, and impossible to unfold. Online lessons are in some cases good and very useful online, sometimes a license for the ears. I think that it depends on the lecture itself, but sometimes also on the content of the lecture.

  2. The world has been in an "online universe" for quite some time. We have been confronting a big
change in our lives for more than six months. That change is called the COVID-19. Bosnia and
Herzegovina has been affected by the virus around March of 2020. Since then, we all have been
facing a new world and a lot of getting used to. Our sophomore year began in October with
online lessons. We all needed to learn our way to the online world.
It's hard to get used to this kind of learning. First, there are problems with the Internet. Most of
the time, the connection is weak, and it takes longer to connect to the platform. Also, when the
connection is weak, we can't hear our professors that good. The second problem is that we are
missing our live learning experience. It's so much different when a professor is talking in person,
giving live examples. Also, we can't see our friends. We can't study and do projects together.
Because we don't only learn from professors, we learn from our friends too. For me, the third
problem is learning. Most of the learning material is in digital form, and we need to learn from
phone or laptop. I really love to learn from notebooks. It's much easier and doesn't make your
eyes hurt like those in digital form. When reading or learning from a screen, I can't really
concentrate. It's like my brain doesn't want to receive information. Maybe it's because learning
from a laptop doesn't include much activity. You're just sitting in one place, learning from a
screen, and that's it, while learning from a notebook includes a change of pose, maybe even
    walking across the room.
The good thing about online lessons would be that we can access them from home. When we're
feeling down, weak or sick, we don't need to dress up to go to faculty. Sometimes we even don't
need to turn on our cameras. We have a little bit more free time than usual. Most of us don't
spend time commuting with online lessons now. There is a lot of students that live in other cities
or countries. But I would say the best things about going to faculty lessons are commuting with
friends, walks to faculty, being in class with friends, doing projects, laughing. Also a good thing
about online lessons is that students with developmental difficulties can learn from home, which
    is much easier for them.
I really miss going to faculty, and I hope this situation will soon be over. I hope people affected
by the virus will get better, and the whole world will get back to normal life, if we even
remember what is normal. I believe we will all get through this challenge together by
implementing measures that the Federal Ministry of Health gave.

  3. What do you think of online lessons?
Online lessons are good for those who love staying at home, for those who have many responsibilities so they can manage their time better. But on the other hand, it can be really time consuming too and it can be bad for someone who's used to going out, to someone who's used to being in touch with people and to someone who's active during the day. I like it, I am not a big fan of it, but it's okay regarding the situation we're in at the moment.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of online learning?
The advantages of online learning... there are many of them such as time flexibility, less time spent in public transportation which automatically means avoiding the whole risky epidemic situation, content is transferred immediately and, truth to be told, it's more comfortable to sit in the living room than in the classroom. The disadvantages of online learning for me is the effect of it. I feel as if I am more concentrated on the lessons while listening to it in person, than over zoom meetings. Another disadvantage is the internet connection which can stress out the professors and the students. Specifically, for my major, we are no longer in the position to have practical classes and that's not good for us because we can't see that in person to actually understand it. Yes, there is YouTube, there are researches and different Google websites about everything, but the feeling we experience when we are directly involved in new things is indescribable.
What do you think of learning English online?
I think it's good since it's a language and it's definitely possible to learn and understand the lessons online and to participate in different activities.
How good do you think teachers are at using technology?
Some of them are good at it, some of them not so which is understandable because they come from different backgrounds, it's totally okay when some of them don't understand some things because they are the older generation.
What experiences have you had of online lessons as a student?
I have mixed feelings about this whole online teaching because I loved going to my university, seeing my friends, hearing the professors teach the lessons in person, seeing things in person. Sometimes I get stressed out because we get more assignments now then we got when we were having real classroom lessons.

  4. For me, online lessons aren't better than classroom lessons because it all kinda loses sense. It may be easier not to travel to get to the classes, get ready every day, but for me it's harder to follow what the professor is talking about. There are also so many things that could go wrong, like connection problems, not being able to get the alone time to follow online classes because of other obligations, coordinating doing housework and homework. We also lose the physical connection with our friends and teachers which can affect our socialization and mental health. These are just some of the reason's why I don't like online classes and I really hope that this situation comes to and end so we all can go back to living our lives and be more producting and happy.

    2. I couldn't agree with you more Mubina. I think that the education that we're getting from online lessons is nowhere near the education we would be getting if we were in classroom lessons. Practice or internship is crucially important, especially for our profession, but unfortunately we can't get much of it in these circumstances. I too hope that all of this will be over soon and that everything will be the way it was before the pandemic.

  5. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has and will continue to have a dramatic effect on the world. One area that has been substantially affected is education at all levels. As a student, my online learning experience hasn't been great. This new learning system has its perks, such as more time to do assignments in the comfort of your home, not having to wake up so early to go to school, and ensuring the safety of the staff as well as the students. Despite these benefits, there are downsides of this method of learning. For example, I have many responsibilities at home, such as taking care of my younger siblings, cooking meals, cleaning up after them, etc. I also find it harder to have any motivation when I'm doing school assignments. When I'm surrounded by all these other temptations like my phone or other electronics, I lose any will to do work. The environment at home is different from the workspace students have at school. A classroom provides a quiet academic place to do work while a household can be loud and cause students to lose concentration or not even work at all. Additionally, I find that simply reading the instructions for an assignment or lesson isn't as engaging as when it's explained by a teacher. The information is much easier to retain when heard rather than simply rushing to read the directions. If I could choose, in the future I would not like to do more online learning because I like having a teacher physically there to help me when I need it. Having a teacher presence helps me focus more on school work, engages me into learning, and the teachers help guide me through the work and are there for any questions I have.

  7. Online teaching has good and bad sides. Good side is that we have more time to spend with our family because we don't need to go at the university. So, every time out between classes we can spend with family if they are at home in that moment. One of the downsides is that we miss friends from college. The advantage, for teachers, is that it is easier to review an online test than a regular test. The disadvantage of online teaching is that we sit at the computer all day. It is not good for our health. Too,
online teaching depends on technology. English language can also be learned well online. We learn it through teaching, but also through movies and songs. I don’t think online teaching is that bad for learning a foreign language. Our teachers are technically literate, so online teaching is going well. My experiences with online teaching are good for now. I have no technical difficulties so everything is fine. Online teaching is robust because many lessons are very difficult to explain well when you are not in the classroom with your students. Online lessons are not better than face-to-face lessons in the classroom because sometimes it’s very hard to understand some lessons, for example math lessons. Some lessons simply can't be explained online.

  9. The fact is that the online learning is not something completely new. Some of faculties, that are part of the University of Sarajevo, have already established online teaching as the part of their studying program long before this crisis. Students could chose to attend classes in “online mode” and get degree like that. However, that was just a one part of studying program that University and faculties were offering. Currently the situation is completely different. All faculties, even those who do not have required conditions, are forced to switch to “online mode”. I consider that as a huge problem. I think that the quality of education is decreasing every day during this period due to various conditions. First of all, not all of the teachers and professors are able to work in these conditions. Despite their will, it is very difficult to adapt teaching to these conditions, especially when it comes to practice. It is practically impossible to organize some kind of activities to have same influence on students. Second thing that I would like to point out is lack of interest among students. It is very hard to keep students attention during the class because they are in their homes and have many things that disturbs them during lesson. In addition, there is a social factor in this story because everything became “virtual”. I think that we are slightly losing a sense of reality and everything becomes “just a business”. There is no more socializing during studying, coffee breaks, group learning, hanging out and thinks like that. I consider that as a big problem. We are social being and I think we all need that social factor in our lives. I think that nothing can replace classroom learning and teaching where you can feel that energy and achieve both verbal and nonverbal communication. I hope that soon everything will be better and that we will return to the classroom as soon as possible.

  10. Online teaching during a pandemic is sometimes a big challenge. There are many difficulties to perform it. I will now state a few reasons for and against.
    FOR:
    - we are at home, which is necessary for our health during this pandemic;
    - we have more time for our families;
    - we can save more money (because we don't pay for an apartment and something like that);
    - we don't waste time on the way to college;
    - we have more free time and also more time for learning;
    AGAINST:
    - a lot of older professors don't know how to use tehnology and because of that we don't have online classes, they only send us lectures via E-mail;
    - we don't have a library near for all the necessary literature;
    - we don't see friends from college like before;
    - not all students have good computers and other equipment that is necessary for online school.
And as a conclusion, the biggest problem of online school is practice because we can't have practice through computers and online classes.

  12. Online lessons are not as efficient as a face-to-face lessons in the classroom. Some lectures, especially on methodologies, are not even possible to realize in online way. The quality of online lessons itself is incomparable with regular lessons.
    Some of advantages:
    - You can get a proper sleep and attend classes.
    - We spare the time that we would spend traveling to faculty or getting ready (online lessons can be attend in pajamas and without makeup ;) )
    - We feel more comfortable because we are in our home.
    - Professors are more available.
    - We learn how to use certain applications and programs.
    Disadvantages are various:
    - First, the classroom is where the internet is. Without proper internet connection and technology, not everyone can afford, the online learning is impossible.
    - Certain space is required for each family member that attends online lessons.
    - Not every professor provides online materials and that is the big problem due to limited access to libraries.
    - Practice cannot be realized on our faculty.
Even before the pandemic, there were online courses of English language that were very useful. However, I consider that the best way of learning language is through live interaction and discussion face-to-face, which is difficult in these conditions.
In my city, many professors of older generation are not skilled at using technology. At the very beginning of the pandemic, they could not cope with online platforms so they have to attend various courses, educations, seminars etc. I believe that in 21st century every educator should be able to use basic programs for online teaching.
My experience about online lessons as a student were various depending of the subject and creativity of professors. There were professors that managed to cope with online lessons and did everything to provide us better knowledge. However, there were also professors that did not even try to give some effort to make things work up and they did minimal work. In the past semester, we were all new in this online environment but I think we still managed to cope with it.
As much as online teaching may sound like the teaching of the future, the fact is that nothing will ever be able to replace conversation and live lectures. I read somewhere that online teaching should be understood as a concert of your favorite band – while you listen it on YouTube, it is great for you, however, when you go to a live concert, it is a completely different experience that YouTube will not be ever able to provide.
Either way, both – online lessons and face-to-face lessons in classroom- are there to make us feel better. We should get the most out of everything and do not allow anything to stand in our way, especially when it comes to learning.

  13. Even though online lessons give us many different opportunities and are a good way of staying safe in this time of a global pandemic because we don't have to leave our home and endanger our health to get an education, I'm actually more fond of traditional school.
Face to face contact while learning and teaching is irreplaceable, it gives us the ability to see our teacher's reactions, body language and we can easily tell what part of the lesson is the most important by the way our teacher acts. There is also social interaction and being able to exchange opinions with your classmates face to face. Some of the students and teachers are not well enough educated on how to use technology to our benefit, which makes it a lot harder for everybody. I think that it is so much harder to stay concentrated in this way. There have been some situations where teacher's didn't know how to make a proper online exam, or where the students didn't know how to do the exams online. One more negative thing about online classrooms is unrealistic exam results, there is more cheating possibilities.
Although I like traditional classes more, I must admit that there are also many positive things such as new ways of learning and different ways of teaching. Some teachers put in the effort to try to make our learning experience way more interesting during online school and it makes it so much easier for us to expand our knowledge. It also gives us the opportunity to keep up with the lessons if we are sick, and helps us not to miss any important lessons.
Overall there are both good and bad things about online lessons. There are many things that need improvement. But on the other hand there are also a lot of things that need to be improved in traditional classes as well.

  14. When it comes to education, poor results on PISA testing are not the only difficulties Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing this year. One of the major challenges within our educational system has been caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic – and that is the issue of organizing classes on online platforms. Some of the benefits of online teaching are the availability of content regardless of the time and location of the user as well as the indestructibility of teaching materials. On the other hand, the disadvantages have to do with technological infrastructure (or its underdevelopment in the local context, to be more precise), a potential lack of skills and prior knowledge related to new technologies and the absence of physical contact.
Our professors are coping very well with the new situation even though the workload has significantly increased. On top of that, online teaching is much more challenging than classroom teaching as both teachers and students need to put more effort into familiarizing themselves with new content. However, learning English online, for example, is almost the same as in class, and perhaps even a little more entertaining.
Online classes are an entirely new challenge in my life since I have always wanted to experience how getting an education from home actually feels like. I believe all this is a positive development; in my opinion, teaching online is preferable than teaching face-to-face due to the fact that now we have more time for attending to other obligations. We also have more time to complete school assignments, we do not get held up in traffic, etc. “The difficulties you face in life do not come to destroy you, but show you what you’re made of and just how strong you are.”

  15. I think online teaching is the best possible solution to the new situation because education is better to continue in any way than not to continue at all. I also think that, unlike the previous semester, online teaching is much more improved, that is, that the quality of the same has been given much more importance. Online teaching has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages would be: flexibility, saving time and money in transportation for students coming from other cities, more time for homework and the ability to use more materials. While I consider the disadvantages are: greater obligations, more tasks, poorer ability to interact, poorer ability to understand the material, greater focus on self-learning.
As for learning English online, I think we can improve our knowledge a lot, because teachers are much more creative in presenting the content we need to adopt, give us exercises that attract our attention much more, and through which we can improve our knowledge and speaking English.
I think that younger professors are much better at using systems and technologies for online teaching, and that through this way of teaching they express their creativity more, which better affects the understanding of the material and our interaction, but I would also praise the older generation of professors who are equally trying to improve their knowledge in the use of technology and provide quality teaching in their own way.
My experience with online teaching is mostly good, but the disadvantages of online classes is that the connection in our areas is much weaker, which affects the quality of teaching. I don't think online classes are nearly as good as inclass, but I also think it's a good thing that because of this situation with COVID 19 technology has advanced and that online teaching exists as an alternative if a situation like COVID 19 happens again in the future.

  17. With this pandemic happening, I think it's safe to say ''better anything than nothing'' when it comes to online classes. As everything, it has its good and bad sides. I think the good things are that we don't have to travel to get to class, the professors are more available for questions and consultations and this situation definitely forced all of us (if I may say mainly older professors) to use technology and various programs. After all people who are educating us to be teachers for 21st century have to be professors of the 21st century. But with that said, it also has many down sides. We are dependent on Internet connection and certain platforms, which are all unpredictable factors. Some students might not have the proper computers or phones to keep up with everything. Also the environment in which we 'listen' to lectures is often loud, stressful, inadequate to say the least. It's hard to ''run away'' from responsibilities we have in our house when we are in it all day, and to explain to our parents we are not just scrolling through social media all day is also sometimes hard. Another thing is the sitting behind a computer screen all day which is not healthy at all. I think nothing can replace the face to face lectures, but I'm saying again, better anything than nothing. Also, I have to say our professors get better at figuring out the platforms every day and it makes it easier for all of us. It also forced both professors and us students to be more creative and improvise. This semester is a lot better than the previous one, but I wouldn't want to continue with this way of learning unless it's really mandatory!

  19. This situation about pandemic is not good for anyone, obviously. There are many reasons why online programs have become a popular form of distance learning in higher education today. Students can participate in classes from anywhere in the world, provided they have a computer and Internet connection. The online format allows a dynamic interaction between the profesor and students and among the students themselves. In this situation we do not have any other solution and I think it is safe for everybody. I think online learning is more like "safeing time", for example I have more time at home doing different things like relaxing, cleaning, cooking etc. This is good learning way especially for students who live in another country or city. But, honestly, I hope that this pandemic will be ended soon, because of health situation in the world and my opinion is that the students life is not online life. We need more experience especially for us, future teachers.

  20. In the same way that we can have good (and not so good) traditional classroom classes, we can also have good (and not so good) online classes. Further, re-conceptualizing and converting traditional classroom classes to online classes does not necessarily make it better or worse.
Though online classes offer many great benefits, they are not right for every student. Even so, this is not quite the same as the social interaction which we should have with other students in a physical classroom setting.Teaching is not just about making sure that the students are learning, it is also about helping students through the difficult time of their adolescence and youth. Internet does not take into consideration learning differences of students of different needs.
There are many benefits of using internet in the classroom but they cannot replace teachers.

  21. Online lessons are not better than classroom lessons. When we are in classroom with all of our classmates the learning process is much easier and more interesting than just sitting in front of our laptops and phones all day. It is also healthier for our eyes, back and our mental health. As human beings we have a need to socialze, to meet new people, make friends, but online lessons don't allow us any of that.
I think online lessons are usfull for those people who have kids, job or some other activity which doesn't allows them to waste their time in trafic of at collage, but for others not so much. From my perception, I was much more organized when our classes weren't online. 22. Online lessons for sure have their advantages and disadvantages. To drive every day on the collage and back take a lot of time. Sometimes out is raining or snowing or it is too hot. With online learning we can avoid all of that. On the other side face to face with our professors is irreplaceable. On that way the concentration is better and longer lasting. Learning English online can be useful. We can use various applications, google search, blog etc. . I think that some teachers are good at using technology, but some don't. But with time every of them can learn that. They just need to be patient and persistent. Online teaching is enough robust to replace face to face lessons in this situation, but face to face lessons in the classroom are still better of course.

  23. Online learning has its advantages but also disadvantages. In my opinion, more disadvantages than advantages.
    Good sides of online learning:
    • that we can be at home with our family
    • We don’t waste time traveling to college
    • saving money
    • access to all teaching units at any time.
The bad thing about online learning:
    • not seeing friends from college
    • Some teaching units cannot be explained online, eg mathematics
    • being on the computer almost all day
    • The problem with the internet connection therefore makes it difficult to understand the teacher who is talking about a teaching unit.
    • We do not have a library nearby for all the necessary literature.

  24. As the text has pointed out, online learning has, up until now, been just an alternative to face-to-face teaching. In my opinion, it should stay as such. A teachers job is more than just imparting pure information to students, akin to "copy-pasting" it to their minds, but to guide them, raise them and grant them pieces of wisdom from beyond the students' age. With online learning, the parents would have to take on parts of the teaching process, which they are simply unable to do. Online teaching robs the students of the opportunity to grow in a healthy, controlled enviroment of their peers, and replaces it with staring at a computer monitor. And finally, online learning is heavily based upon technology. One which is expensive, and is pushing society to once again reserve quality education for the rich, while the poor fight for scraps. Flexibility, which is mentioned in the text, manifests from opportunity and priviledge, not from the shackles of poverty.
Im conclusion, poor students are unable to acces online learning effectively, students' are reliant on their parents' competence and attitude towards learning to have a positive working enviroment, and teachers are unable to do their jobs to the fullest

  25. The situation that we all found ourselves in, during the Covid-19 pandemic, was not easy and was a challenge for all of us to deal with. Our lifes stopped for a couple of months, but I think that studying helped me with the situation which I was in, considering that everything was closed and that our life was reduced only to our house and house premises. Studying from home, for me personally, is a relief because I live in Visoko, which is 2-3 hours away from Sarajevo and the faculty in both directions. Traveling by bus and spending time on the way to college or back home was really tiring and I would have wasted a lot of time. Working from home and online learning may not be of the highest quality and of course it is much better when we are face to face with a professor, but it certainly has its advantages. The time I spent on the way to college, I can now dedicate that time to college responsibilities. What is more difficult is that the large number of tasks that we need to complete because some professors think that we have more time when we are at home, but I think that is not fair because we have more subjects to which we should equally dedicate ourselves. Every subject requires both, time and effort. Also, what is challenging in studying from home is that not every student may be able to access the internet and technological means. Some have a weaker internet connection, some have a better one, so this also created a problem with quallity of hearing and seeing well with the professors and the colleagues, especially at the very beginning when we used a different platform with each professor until we got used to the technology and what the internet offers. It was all new for both, the professors and us students. What is commendable is that the professors had an understanding for us and we for them when the network was interrupted or it was impossible to hold lectures. I have the advantage of seeing my colleagues from Visoko and fulfilling certain group tasks together because we live close to each other, while we did not have much contact with other colleagues from other cities, while it was not like that at the university. One more advantage of online learning is that many students are afraid and nervous about being exposed to a large number of students, while this is the right opportunity to gain self-confidence and relax at least through cameras and microphones at home. However, I personally liked the live presentations and presentations in the classroom, so for me this way of presenting is a bit boring, but still students get involved, discuss different topics, exchange opinions, etc. As for English as a subject, I believe that content can be maintained through online teaching during the third year, while the grammar we worked on in the first year would not be possible as it requires much more explanation. I am of the opinion that I will now be much more involved and discuss various topics with colleagues and the professor, regardless of the fact that I am not the best in English, because I feel relaxed through the camera and microphone and I am not under stress and pressure.

    1. The sudden appearence of the Covid19 pandemic has shook the previously established form of everyday life. Frankly, at the start of the pandemic I was happy because it would seem a break from school is what I would get. It is exhausting to travel every day. Driving from Visoko to my university goes hand in hand with two to three hours a day wasted in a bus. I thought it would be over quick and I can get back to my regular schedule. But the isolation really overstayed its welcome. When the Pandemic started I was taking care of the older members of the family, because they were forbidden from leaving the house. I checked on them every day, I bought groceries and took their chores and everyday tasks on myself. That's when I asked myself: "Dear God, what will happen to the elderly and disabled, who have nobody to take care of their needs? How do they receive their pension, do their shopping, how do they live? How does life look between their four walls?" These are some of the questions that were constantly rotating in my head. Luckily, volounteer workers were placed very soon. They were going from door to door, bought groceries, paid bills. The pandemic went on, and on... I couldn't really fathom how long it would go on. I was listening to lectures every day, did my tasks, wrote papers. Soon Ramadan came. Muslims' sacred month. I was extremely sad and psychologically overwhelmed during that period. We couldn't invite friends, neighbours and family to iftars. Every custom we had had to be taken with strong precautions, involving only close family members. That was really hard for me.

    2. . That's when I took the whole situation seriously, and focused on studying as much as I could. It was expected of me to finish all classes as soon as possible. Online classes have their pros and cons. First we can take a look at the pros. The biggest advantage is, as previously mentioned, is the travel ban. It saved countless hours. I had more time for studying and personal obligations. I was writing college papers, worked on presentations, I learned how to seriously and independently investigate and study certain subjects. I was doing my own internet research, analysis, and with instructions from my mentors, finished all my assignments. The disadvantages are mostly tied to the technology. Precisely, I had issues with the internet connection. It was pretty bad, the lectures kept lagging, the professors couldn't hear me, and so on. I was forced to call the internet provider and to switch internet packages, regardless of cost. Another disadvantage was the inability to sync and the complete lack of preparations from the University. One professor used Zoom, another used BigBlueButton, Skype, Viber, some used Teams. It was really hard to find your way in all of that. Every professor used a different app on the phone and the computer, so I used most of my memory for no reason. The situation today is much better. Everyone uses Office 365. We have video calls with every professor, we communicate, ask questions, and follow lectures. Of course, we get more individual tasks in these conditions, so I continually do my own research. I write more, and read pure theoretical work less. Honestly, this current way of studying suits me well, because I have more time for my assignments while being at home. I am divided on the questions of reliability of the online class. Teams is extremely reliable because everyone who uses it (students and professors) have their accounts with passwords, so there can be no intruders. That's, however, not the case for Zoom, where anyone can join via a link. They can tune in, listen, record, and potentially abuse the video.

    3. Internet lectures can be equally well presented online as they were in the classroom. Of course, it is important that all conditions are met. Both the students and the professors need a good internet connection, a decent laptop, their own space where they can isolate from other members of the household, where they can be focused, etc. Because of that, I think that this reform of the educational system, especially on the Academic level, has been long overdue. The pandemic has forced everyone to wake up and to use the technology of the twenty-first century where we can. As far as learning the English language, for someone who has no prior knowledge, it is hard really hard and demanding, because the online class system imples a lot of individual work. But those who have some sort of previous knowledge and good foundations, this system provides excellent opportunities for updgrading skills.

It is important to emphasize that this is something new for all of us; a new lifestyle, new habits, skills. 27. It was very hard for me when we started with online lessons. My whole life was changed and I need some time to prepare for new chalenges with online class. I really miss my friends and talking with teachers 'face to face'.
It is many advantages like flexibility, interactivity, self-pacing and innovations. It seems that the longer the pandemic lasts, the more likely online learning becomes a generaly acceptable mode of teaching and learning all over the world.
Disadvantages are technological equipment and the provision of equipment, instructors and students with bad internet connection and without appropriate technological devices are not able to acces in online learning.
Learnin English online is very good and interesting because we have so many topics and blogs to disccus. Teachers are very good at using technology. My experience with online lessons are very good. Online lessons are not better than face-to-face lessons because I like to be with my friends and teacher and it's so easy to understand the lesson when teacher speak in front of us.

There is so many advantages of online lessons like that we have so much choices and many informations on internet to full our lessons and make them interesting, but also disadvantages are bad because some students and profesors don't have equipment for online work and it is very hard to learn alone. Englis online is so much fun and interesting because there are so many topics we can disccus. Teachers are very good at using technology they give all from them to make our lessons easier. My experience of online lessons are good because I love to learn something new and we try to help each other. 29. Cornonavirus has brought unrest all over the world. People are exposed to many challenges. How to survive, to stay normal, are just one of the questions we face. As a student, I can talk about what the coronavirus has brought to our education. The advantages of online teaching are for us who drive a lot because we don't have to go to college, get up early, avoid crowds in buses, trams ... We also have more free time. But like everything, there are many shortcomings in online teaching. Some professors give us a lot of assignments without previously shown examples. There are also many problems in families where more children go to school and there are fewer opportunities, so we should have more understanding of each other. It’s not easy for the professors, nor for us students, but only together can we beat all of this and get back to school.

  30. This year of study is much different from the previous one. We encountered unexpected online lectures and independent solving of certain tasks. At the beginning of all of us for both professors and students, the situation itself was surprising. Many senior professors did not have enough experience with technology, so we were short on the number of lectures and their qualities. Many of us do not have a good enough economic situation to afford work equipment (laptop, computer) which is indispensable in these situations. However, as time goes on, with the certainty that the situation with online lectures is improving. Experiences from the previous semester were useful for improving the teaching of this semester. Teaching through online platforms cannot be compared with the performance of formal instruction in classrooms. Far better experience and the performance of lectures and exercises are in the classroom because I think that this way of teaching is much better than the current one. A great disadvantage, especially for us students of pedagogical sciences, is the impossibility of performing obligatory pedagogical practice. Current lectures and knowledge cant be compared. Unfortunately, due to this situation, we do not have access to much literature because most of the literature is by professors who are not yet in pdf formats or are in libraries where it is difficult for us students from other cities to access them, so we are left to fend for ourselves in given literature. However, some professors have prepared for the new situation, so they send us alternative literature every day, which will be of great help to us. The official online platform of the faculty started its work this semester, so the lectures are much safer and simpler than the previous semester. Technology is currently needed to improve a foreign language in this case of English. I think that the English language can be learned the most by reading blogs and pages in the same language, which at the same time enables us to acquire new knowledge and facilitates future conversation. Current lectures in English are very interesting because they cover current topics and topics that are close to the younger population. Great emphasis is placed on the discussion of the same, which allows us to improve previous knowledge. Of course, no matter how devastating and negative this situation is, it still has some positive sides for all of us. The first and indispensable thing is to stay at home because it is of great importance to reduce movement and contact with the public during the pandemic, so it is a facilitating thing for students who also use public transport to get to college. This fact is closely related to the socio-economic situation, which actually leads to an increase in the student budget because we do not have to pay for public transportation and meals during the stay at the university. At one point we can be thankful for this situation because we are able to spend more time with our families which we were prevented from doing before because we didn’t have enough free time and didn’t spend enough time at home. The time we would otherwise spend on the way to university can now be used to learn new and improve existing knowledge, experiences, and skills.

I think that the lessons are too extensive and that they are much harder to master than when lectures are held in the classroom. During online classes, it is much more difficult to maintain interaction between the lecturer and the listener. In the classroom, it is much easier to have a conversation, ask questions and ask for explanations. Especially for practical works, online explanations and demonstrations are difficult. Learning English through online classes, especially for part-time students, is also difficult for the same reasons as I have already stated. We try, depending on our private obligations, to follow the classes as much as possible so that it would be easier for us to take the exam and master the material. It is harder for us to master new words and expand the knowledge we have already acquired. The advantage of the online approach and the implementation of teaching in the current situation is only that we follow the lectures from home, move less and in this way we protect ourselves and our loved ones from the pandemic. As for the ability of professors to use technology, it depends individually from professor to professor. Most of them do very well and do their best to make it easier for students. Since this is my first time encountering this kind of work, it is quite difficult to follow lectures according to this system. Most of all, especially as a part-time student, I worry about the realization of the exam. I believe that online teaching, especially from the point of view of professors, is not reliable because professors are not able to monitor the implementation of pre-examination and examination obligations. Students are also insecure due to lack of materials and frequent use of websites for sources of information because they cannot be sure which information is reliable and which is not. Online lectures can in no way be better than classroom lectures due to the already mentioned difficult interaction. I think that lectures in the classroom are much more useful because in such a realization we have a teacher-student interaction and the students with each other. It is easier to understand the materials when we can all participate in communication and when everyone expresses their opinion and understanding of a certain topic, which is difficult to do through online teaching.

  32. What do you think about online lessons?

As for online lessons, depending on the subject, for some content I think it is quite extensive, although in the final year we encounter already known concepts so it is easier for us to master certain sections, while students who encounter this for the first time find it very difficult to learn and adopt new or unknown terms.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of online learning?

As for the disadvantages, I believe that the basic problem is a bad internet connection. Families in which more people are educated are not able to provide more technology where it comes to a key problem in monitoring classes. Also, interaction with professors and colleagues is much more difficult than when teaching takes place within the classroom. As an advantage, I would mention a greater possibility of information sources, more free time for tasks, and maintaining the health of yourself and people around you.

What do you think about learning English online?

Learning English is also difficult as for other subjects due to the lack of interaction, especially for part-timt students. We try to follow these lectures as much as possible with full-time students depending on our obligations. I want to be more active and more knowledgeable because it makes it easier for me to pass the exam more successfully.

How good do you think teachers are at using technology?

The use of technology is individual per professor. Most of them meet with this for the first time, there are a lot of difficulties, but they try to realize the teaching in the best and most successful way possible.

What experience did you have with internet lectures as a student?

Considering that this year I meet with this kind of realizations for the first time, there are a lot of difficulties because I am not familiar with the working platform. Due to private obligations I am not able to dedicate more time to monitoring classes with full-time students.

How reliable do you think online teaching is?

As far as reliability is concerned, I think that this type of exam realization is not on the side of the professor because they cannot adequately monitor the validity of the exam realization of each student. From the student's point of view, there is also a lot of content on the Internet that is offered as a source of information, but it is not valid and relevant, and it leads students to wrong results.

Internet lessons are not better, because unfortunately I mentioned a lot of disadvantages: interactions with professors, impossibility of asking questions if there are difficulties in mastering the material, websites with information are not reliable or professors do not consider them as such.

  33. In my opinion, online classes are pretty bad and I don't think that we actually learn a lot from it for now. I'm not saying that it can't get better, we could improve it, but for now I don't think kids take it seriously as "face to face" classes. School not only taught us boring lessons, but also taught us how to communicate, how to make friends, how to get more confidence by speaking about lessons in front of the class. Online classes are kinda easier when it comes to exams, but when it comes to actually learning something, it's pretty bad. A lot of teachers don't even know how to properly use these platforms or send us material for studying. Sure, online classes have some adventages, like flexible time, we don't have to go out of our houses to attend the class, we spend more time at home with our family, we eat when we want and drink whenever we want. But I think that actually going and learning something at classes is more important. I think that spending time with teachers and classmates is better and more affective than sitting at home attending online classes. And I think it could have some bad consequences for people. People won't be communicating the same way, it kinda creates distance between people. Also i'm pretty sure that it's easier for teachers to speak about a lesson in person than at online classes. A lot of them say they feel like they are talking to themselves. And honestly I think some students don't really listen to the teachers, they could be doing some other stuff in house while the teacher is speaking and nobody would know since cameras aren't mandatory. A lot of students don't feel comfrotable turning their cameras on either and it makes them feel anxcious about it, and some teachers pretty much make us turn them on. So in my opinion, face to face classes are something we got used on, the best way we work and I hope it will be back as soon as possible.

  35. Online lessons require good connection, modern equipment and present a lot of challenges. I think online lessons in colleges are completely feasible, although I would not agree that the situation is the same in the lower grades of primary school. As advantages of online learning, I would single out: time savings, availability of materials, availability of professors ... Disadvantages: less interaction, dependence on technology, less physical activity ... The whole world is now online without asking whether someone knows how to do it or not . Most professors initially had difficulty using various applications, as did most students. It was a big novelty for all of us. Experiences with online teaching are mostly good. As a disadvantages I would cite the poor connection, which I sometimes encounter.
I am not sufficiently informed about the reliability of online teaching, but I think we are safe.
Many will say that online teaching can never replace face-to-face teaching. I think this is the case with subjects where exercises and practical work are represented, and that in the future most classes will take place online.

  39. Hello,
There are some advantages and disadvantages of online learning. I Think that online learning is cheaper than tradicional learning because online learning cuts many of costs, including( printing materials ,university campus, travel ,food). Also online learning offer more flexibilty , we can study any time we want,we can study wearing anything we want. We also develop skills that could be later used at work. Online learning also has some disadvantages. Online learning can not offer human interaction. In traditional classrooms, teachers can give students immediate face-to-face feedback. Also there is a lack of communication with fellow students to share experiences. I think that English online learning has many benefits. We can improve our skills:reading, speaking, listening, writing. We can practise to listening comprehension by watching videos on Youtube. We can send our teacher homework through email or online learning platforms. We can have English conversation with our classmates on apps like Zoom or Teams. We can improve our reading skills with many articles which we can find online. I think that teacher are good in using tehnical. For me online learning has many benefits because I have more time for me ,my family. I can improve my tehnical skills and online learning cost much less than tradicional learning, but I miss colleagues and my teachers.

  40. My thoughts about online lessons are:
First, It is a great, new experience both teachers and students, beacuse It is a first time that we experience listening classes from home and it is a good way to learn how to use some new programs . Although It sounds great, It has some flaws. For example, face to face interaction, problems with using technology for some students who are not in situation to provide technology that is needed for best experience of online classes. Bad thing is that we spend a lot of time using technolgy and It is very unhealty. One more bad thing that I have experienced is a Internet provider problem during the Online test. It is very stressful situation for students. Especially for learning English, I think that the biggest problem is that there is no interaction between students and teacher, I think that is very important for learning language. Teachers are doing their best to provide us with learning materials as much as they can. Bad thing is that some teachers don't understand our problems with connection and they give us online tests with limited time.

My opinion is that nothing can replace our classroom and I can't wait for situation to be as It once was.

  41. For an online lecture, first of all, we need a quality computer, a stable Internet connection and peace and quiet. Such a lecture can be conducted with quality, if these conditions are met and if the professors and students are far away.
The advantages of e-learning are faster availability of materials, in addition to written materials, audio and video recordings are available. Access and participation of a large number of users is possible. The e-classroom is open 24 hours a day, which allows access to materials at any time. whatever times they want. For each task, the time needed for its realization can be set aside.
Disadvantages of such learning are lack of face-to-face communication, lack of personal contact between participants which affects student motivation and quality of acquired knowledge, reduced level of activity leading to poor progress in the learning process. Professors do not receive feedback on whether the content is understood. There is a lack of interaction, in the exchange of emotion, in the exchange of reflection.
Learning English online has always been useful. There are many applications and sites on the Internet that help us master English as well as possible. The meaning of some words that are unknown to us can always be found on the Internet as soon as possible. to the maximum.
This new teaching system was unknown to everyone, even to teachers. It takes time to master the way of entering online platforms and their use. Younger teachers mastered it very quickly, while for older ones it was much harder. But everything is mastered over time. .
As a student, my experiences with online lectures were very different. I have never encountered such a way of teaching and it was all new to me. Teaching is different than that in college, but today's technology allows us to feel as much as if we are in college and to follow the lecture live. Of course, it can never be the same.
Online teaching can be trusted to those students who are accustomed to work and who regularly perform their tasks. There is nothing stopping such students from succeeding in what they want to achieve. They will communicate with professors and ask what is not clear to them.

  42. Online lessonss are something new for us. They are something we are not used to. But online lessons give us a new experience.
The benefits of online learning are lower cost, we have more time for ourselves and for the family. Also, we don’t have to rush to get on the bus hehe.
Disadvantages of online lessons are insufficient interaction of students and teachers, inability to obtain information, also we cannot be with school friends.
By learning English through online lessons, we improve our reading and listening to English.
There are professors who are not very skilled in using such lessons, so we try to help them, and there are also professors who are more skilled than us, so they help us.
Sometimes while I have online lessons I have certain annoyances, the internet is weak, I don’t hear the professor which really frustrates me.
Our teaching is better in the classroom, as originally designed, where we can organize all the lessons, do all the exercises, and have our own presentations and activities. Better is what we are all used to.

  43. As much as online learning may sound better, I actually think that in our country we have not yet reached that level of online learning that students would benefit from. We are increasingly noticing how „computer illiterate“ professors in Bosnia and Herzegovina are, which makes the progress of online teaching and learning much more difficult. Also, many professors are not even trying to give us a quality lecture, and that is why students fail to succeed and fail to have better results at the end of the semester. Of course, most students will take advantage of the frivolity and unprofessionalism of many professors and that results in cheating on exams. Of course, not all of professors are like that. I'm very glad to say that there are some hardworking professors, the ones that enjoy their jobs and do everything they can to help students in this seemingly hopeless situation. And no, I'm not trying to say that professors are the ones who take all the blame of failing in online learning, students are even worse. They are not taking this all situation seriously, they do not attend lectures, and, of course, they try to pass every exam by cheating. This leads us to lack of success at work in the future.
Unfortunately, there are issues on which we can not affect. Those are: bad internet connection, computers or other devices that are not in normal operation, power outage etc. All of this makes online learning difficult and creates huge problems in solving all the tasks we have to do. However, we live in the 21st century and we have to get used to the ever newer technology. It is very likely that in the future almost everything will be online, however, and our universities, jobs... Yes, it is very nice to stay in your comfortable bed every morning and finish everything you need that way (online), but does that make us even more lazy? Let's think about it! I'm speaking from my personal experience. I was much more productive when we used to have face-to-face lessons in the classroom. Also, my grades were better because I had more will to learn. Spending times with my colleagues before, after and during the classes was so much fun and I would be immensely happy if we returned to our classrooms.

  44. The global COVID-19 pandemic has brought new ways of teaching/learning. When I say new ways I mean new ways of teaching/learning online. For some this has been a small move but for others, this is a completely new way of education. During the pandemic, online learning seems to be one of the safest and easiest ways. Of course, online learning has positive and negative sides, so here are some:
    Positive:
-we can join online lessons from almost everywhere
-we can finish our homework after work
-online learning can be cheaper because we don't spend our money on tickets that we have to buy when we travel to university
-we can improve our technological skills
    Negative:
-one of the most important issue that we can have during our online learning is network, not everyone has perfect network
-since we can use online learning, there's a risk some may pay less attention to what the professor is saying
For the question „How good do you think teachers are at using technology?“ I can say that I saw an article that says that 91-year-old professor takes online classes. While most old people are averse to the use of technology, that professor obviously denies all the claims that an older man has difficulties using technology, so everything can be learned.
In the end, I believe that nothing can affect a person’s success. If a person wants good results in schooling, he can achieve it in any way, not just in inclass teaching. But I also think it is nicer to be with friends and spend time with them.

  45. Internet learning has its advantages and disadvantages. I think that learning and teaching is certainly better in the classroom, when we all see each other. We see someone's facial expression, movements and the like, and this is very important for quality communication.
Learning English online is interesting because we can watch some short film, video, do an online quiz.
Teachers know how to use online platforms, programs. Some platforms are newer, we all met someone for the first time, so it is quite correct on the part of teachers.

  46. School has been tough. Transferring to all online learning has been one of the biggest challenges this year for me. As a student, I'd say I've usually kept up with all my work for all my classes. The biggest change I've seen in my case is becoming less focused with my tasks. Being in a real classroom is so much different from learning online. In a classroom, most of your focus is there, unlike virtually, the temptations are many!
It is good for learning self-discipline , but when having all this thrown at you, you can't really focus on one thing while having posibillity to do something completely different. Learning English online could be very easy and interactive because most of the content is in English language, so it can be very interesting. We are with full respect because of the age gap between us and teacher and in the time they were studying tehnology wasn't evenclose to this now, it's evolving so fast that even we can't follow it completely. I think that nothing can change the real lecture in the classroom, because teacher has full freedom to express himself. I think it is very robust because we are not quite able to transfer full sense of lecture through video calls and other means of online lessons. Online lessons are not better than live face to face lectures; reasons:
    -better focus in live sessions
-more interaction between students and teacher
-connections are always cracking and many other technical issues

First good thing is that I don't have to prepare for classes. I have more time to do tasks and I have more time for myself and things I like to do.
Bad thing is that sometime I find myself not interested in doing my tasks. I was much more organized before. Also, it’s very hard to understand some lessons.

  49. At the moment, health is the most important thing. Some people in the ministry think we will get COVID 19 sonner in educational instituties than in cafes or restaurants. My opinion is that if we can go to different institutes, we can also go to faculties. Online educations has both, positive and negative sides. We don't spend time on dressing, putting on make up, on transport. The negative side makes:
    - that many professors haven't got understanding,
    - we have more responsibilities,
    - we don't see colleagues,
    - sometimes the connection is bad or the power goes out,
    - ours eyes hurt and so on.
The hardest thing for us is that we don't have practical classes. For our profession it is very important part of education. And finnaly when I look at what I have written, I realize that classroom teaching is better. I hope that this situation will end quickly and that everything will return to normal.

  50. I think that online lessons have both positive and negative sides.
The good side of online classes, especially since I don't live in Sarajevo, is that I can move back home. We are learning new lessons from our home, sometimes not even leaving our bed. We don't have to spend our time or money on traveling to get to our faculty. We can attend our classes even when we are sick or don't feel like going there.
On the other side, online classes had a lot of negative impact on me and a lot of other students since this is all new to us. I have personally struggled a lot, especially last year, since a lot of professors lacked empathy for their students. I also struggled with lack of motivation, since online classes are a lot more monotone than classes in person. Also, our household members can have a hard time understanding and respecting the importance of online classes. We are also dependant on our WiFi connection, which determines whether we are going to be attending that lesson or not. This is a big issue especially during online exams.
Overall, I prefer tradicional in person classes, since it is easier to communicate both with our professors and our colleagues, but I think that we can also learn a lot of new things with online classes and expand our knowledge about technology.

I think that classical education and online education aren't same and both od them have their own pros and cons. Online education gives us opportunity to learn about technology. We can all do our tasks at home and we all can take care of our health at home. But online education cons is that we don't have comunication face to face with our friends and classmates. We all have needs to speak to someone, to hug our friends and spend time with them. Bad thing is that we spend a lot of time in front of ours cellphones witch is also bad for our health, but, after all, considering the situation we should be grateful for our lives. All of this will be past someday and we'll have our 'normal' lives again.

  52. This situation is not easy. It's hard to change and adopt the established system of work. Online education and education in school are not the same. Our system of education is not so good and developed, it doesn't keep ko with modern time, so online teaching is a good opportunity for us to get to know and use todays modern world. The good side of online teaching are that we won't have to composate for the classes, and that we can do all tasks from home. Bad sides are that iz seems that we have more tasks now than in "normal classes". Some professors explain tasks very confusingly. We don't have a chance to spend time with each other, we spend hours alone with a cell phone, I don't like online classes, but for now it is our only and best opportunity. I hope this will pass quickly. As long as both, teachers and students try to give their best, online teaching should not be a problem.

  53. Covid-19, as a global pandemic, has called for social distancing. It has made people mandatory to sit indoor and sitting indoor may lead to mental stress. Hence to keep people engaged and free from mental stress, online learning can play important role. Online learning is the best solution during this pandemic situation. Teachers can use virtual classrooms to teach from home with all necessary tools which makes the online sessions as effective as traditional ones. Pandemics often compel the learners to stay at home for long period of time and obstruct teaching-learning process. This article emphasizes on how online learning is beneficial during times of crises like work absences or pandemics. Therefore, some tools and techniques for online learning which can ensure the continuity of learning are highlighted.

Online learning has its advantages and disadvantages. The biggest problem for online learning is a bad internet connenction on which we can not affect, especially if we have more students in the family, so it is much easier to have a conversation in the classroom than like this. Big disandventages for us like educators is the impossibility to going on pedagogical practise. This online education is very useful for our parents because we can save a lot of money. Online learning is very good for all students who do not live in Sarajevo, like me because we do not waste time on the way to college. Online teaching is good process in which we having opportunites to take kontrol on our daily organizaton-if we have good organization, we will for sure having more free time for us. Being on computer all day is very tiresome and unhealthy for our mental health. As the biggest problem of online learning is that we do not see school friends, go on coffee etc, and this social problems are worrying. Learning English online is not difficult because we have a lot of opportunities for learning.

  56. In this situation with COVID-19 everything is new and strange for everyone. I am really scared how it will look like when some time has passed, will we get ok and cool with this or will it destroy our social life? When we talk about learning online I think that it has some advantages. For example, we have more time to do some other things like cooking, watching series and movies, having fun with family and we don't go out much earlier than before when we have to go in faculty. We save our time on trasnportation and can follow lectures just in our home clothes. On the other hand, laptop and mobile phone are very bad for our healthy. We spend hours and hours sitting and watching in screen. I think that this situation isn't good for our practical part of learning because we have just theory.
I like to be at home and this type of teaching isn't so bad for me but I understand that it will be reflected in our life.

  57. In unusual situations like this, i think we haven't space to discuss. We all know online learning is just an alternative we didn't expect we'll, soonly, have to use to replace traditional way of education. But, we have to adjust to decisions of ministry.
While we are online educating, we cannot be concetrated like in the class. While online classes are proceeding, we are able to talk to someone, to watch TV, read book, play games etc., there is no someone to warn us or to get our attention back knowing what we're doing.
I, by myself, don't get online education seriously enough and I think it's kinda depressive.
But, if there isn't online education we would not be able to educate at all in this situation. Also, it's good because it is cheaper, we dont have to pay the drive every day, documents, papers etc..
I don't think all teachers are equally good in online education. Some of them are better with technology knowledge then others.
I think online education has more flaws than good sides, but we're not able to choose right now.

  58. If you ask me about online learning or face to face learning I would rather choose face to face. Always! And I think that most of students would agree with me. First of all in face to face learning we have that sense for obligation, at least we have to go to faculty, listen our lectures etc. And it makes us feel better because even if it's just going to faculty and listening our teachers, actually it is something and that little thing makes us feel productiv. Maybe sometimes I'm not in the mood for college lectures but I go and in the end of the day that little thing makes me happy about myself. In these times I really miss all of that. I can' t say I wasn't happy in the start of pandemic. I could go to my home, have time for many other things, I haven't been forced to listen collegue lectures, just turn them on and I work something that I want in that moment. But now, I feel useless sometimes. Anyways, this is a hard time for all of us and we should get the best out of it. Online learning is the best thing we can do right now and each person can make excellent results regardless of the mode of teaching. It's individual and depends on the person to person. I'm really pleasant that we have any way of lecturing in this situation but also I can't wait to get back on the benches. (Semina Nešust, II godina, Odsijek za edukaciju i rehabilitaciju).

  59. The first half of 2020 is a hard time for global community. The COVID 19 pandemics swept through the world affecting many aspects of life, starting from industrial production to the re-adjustments in the academic calendar of all educational institutions globally. Menagement of higher educational institutions have no other option but to use internet technology.
The pandemic caused schools, colleges and universities across the globe to shut down their campuses so that students could follow social distancing measures. But because nobody knows when this pandemic will disappear fully, educational institutions across the globe decided to use the already available technical resources to create online learning for students.
There are many technological issues like downloading issues, installing apps, low internet speed, inaudible voice, video and so on. Also for teachers it's hard to identify which students are struggling most and how much learning and development they have lost out on.
But there are also a lot of good things about online learning, students have everything they need om their computers, mobile phones, also a lot of them don't have to waste their time traveling by buses or trams.

  60. Considering this pandemic situation education is at a standstill. Everyone is trying their best, but it is very hard to maintain the proper curriculum. Many professors are not very good at using technology and that affects on students. Actual learning is reduced to a minimum. We are not able to work properly. I hate working in this conditions and I think that students are suffering the most. We can't get proper education and knowledge that is in the end requested from us. The only advantage is that we are not traveling to university. In this period of the year weather is bad, so that is one thing that we are not worrying about. Everything else is awful. We are not getting enough learning materials, not enough explanations and not enough time in classes. We can't discuss properly or talk because connections can be bad, microphones can be low quality and so many other network problems. This situation is affecting our motivation and our results are getting worse. Face to face learning is way better and more effective than this alternative methods, but we are trying out best. I know that it is difficult, but I can't wait to go to university. I just want everything to go back to normal as soon as possible.

  61. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are forced to conduct our classes online, which is certainly better than suspending everything. Professors and students do their best to maintain the quality of these classes, but I am reluctant to admit that online teaching is a big circus show. I think everyone can agree that online classes are not as nearly as good as classes in our classroom. From my experience I can name a few problems I've had since the beginning of online classes. I'll begin with our professors, since a majority of them don't know how to use computers or the platforms on which we're working on, it's needless to say that our general quality of classes experienced a huge downfall. Personaly I find it harder to keep up during the classes since there are always connection issues or technology malfunctions. I also find it harder to understand the homework which we are given. Then there is my mental health which has decreased majorly during this pandemic. I have literally zero motivation to do anything, needless to say that it will affect my grades in the end. I feel more comfortable participating in our lessons when we have our classes in a classroom, in these online classes i hardly say anything and I know that a lot of my coleagues can relate because when the professor says something only crickets can be heard. That's my brief opinion on online classes. I hope we will make the best out of it and of course stay healthy so we can see each other in our class like the good old times :)

  62. I honestly believe that online teaching has a much lower success rate than teaching that is done in a classroom at a college or school. Online teaching has a lot of shortcomings such as: poor internet connection, interruption, unwillingness of teachers and children for online teaching, and that communication with teachers and colleagues is not the same. There are still many shortcomings, but I think that the biggest drawback is the unwillingness and insufficient education of teachers and students for this type of teaching. I believe that a country like Bosnia and Herzegovina is not ready for this way of working yet and that much needs to be done in the development of online teaching. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to this type of work and we got the opportunity to still be educated and get used to this way of working. Yet I hope when all this pandemic is over that we will all go back to schools and continue with the old and more effective method.

I hope so this situation with Corona virus will end soon so we can continue where were we. Here we are always on some online meetings and just sitting at home which makes me a little bit sad. Learning English online is really good, because even in class we always use a lot of technology to learn something new. Teachers are not perfect at using techology but I can understand it. We are all in this for the first time, so we should help each other. I didn’t have any of bad situations but sometimes there are problems with the internet like losing connection. 64. There are so many challenges of the online teaching. First of all, the preparations for the online lessons are not the same as they would be for the classroom lessons. If you don't have a good internet connection and all the necessary equipment, you can forget about successful implementation of the online lessons. Even when you have all of it, you will be still wondering if all the students hear you and understand you well.
You probably won't be able to see them unless you require students to turn on the cameras, otherwise you will be talking while looking at their profile pictures. 😄
I think that the professors are doing very well with technology this semester, so every professor teaches us regularly, unlike last semester when we all got used by way of working and teaching.
However, I think that classroom teaching is far better and more efficient. During the online classes, professors often don't have that much feedback, or there is no feedback at all which is not the case with classroom classes when you see all students at once.
Also, I think that learning English online is a good choice because there are certainly online foreign language courses, so it’s still easier to do.

  65. This is still a new way of learning to all of us. Personally, I don't like this kind of learning. I think that professors aren't trying hard enough to make lessons interesting. We are listening online lessons every day, and we are losing our interest. They only give is homework and we don't even have a free weekend. Only what we do is sitting in front of computer and writing something. I think that we all lost our motivation and that this kind of learning will affect our success. Also, this kind of learning could be more effective. However, nothing can't replace classroom lessons because in this way of learning we don't have a lot of feedback. Also, one of disadventages is that we are all limited by equipment and the Internet connection.

  66. Since I was unable to put my comment and express my written thought regarding this topic, I would like to join.
Unfortunately, we are all in the same problem when it comes to Covid 19 virus. This is something that has been a problem for the entire world and this forced us to restart our lives.
Regarding Online classes, unfortunately, as a state and a nation, we are lacking behind when it comes to technology. Many countries have been holding online classes, written assignments over the web and it has been like that for a very long time, so they are already used to this, while it is a problem for us. Both professors and students. We’ve never been forced to research this, so we haven’t. We are based on basic technology and now we have to learn.
Online teaching has its pros and cons as well as everything. Since I have my own classes every day, because I am in that job as a teacher who has online classes, I encounter problems such as lack of understanding, and their will for learning. Motivating a child is different when we can explain certain things to them in person. I encounter various difficulties and inability of me as a teacher to express my creativity.
In addition to my job, I encounter these difficulties as a student. Too many tasks, too little time in certain situations. Although our professors know that we have online classes, they probably do not have enough understanding that in addition to all these obligations, we also have other things that need to be mastered in this newly created situation.
When it comes professors technology managing , I am satisfied because, as I have already said, we all learn and we all do the best we can.
Students encounter financial difficulties because technology is expensive. So it takes a lot more understanding and a lot more time for everyone. Learning English this was is something that I am already used to, because I use every chance to learn something new. There are various options to learn English such as listening to music in English, reading books (we have pdf books), texts, etc. in English. Classes that we have with our professor is very good because there is a chance to practice communication skills.
But, I am definitely not a fan of this time, because everything is different. Much less love, empathy, sociability. I miss my family, I miss my friends, but I wonder how and when we will continue living after this. This is my last year of college, and I’m sad because I’m going to finish college at home, sitting in front of my laptop. But again, I’m also grateful for that opportunity to be able to finish college, whether it’s online or not.

  67. Online leasons an online learning is good in some aspects but it can be really hard because we dont get the face to face interaction. I think that online learning is not a good long term way of teaching and learning . There is big lack of understaning of the subjects we are studying, there is a big part of lack of motivation because we are at home where we are used to relax and not think that much about classes but its all combined now and a lot of us cant even adapt to that way of learning and ofcourse teachers have to think about all the ways to teach us and motivate us and that is really difficult.
Learning English online for me right now is not that hard because English is my second language that I think I know as much as maybe Bosnian. But if someone is still learning basics of English I think they cant learn English correctly and properly.
I think that teachers and doing their best at using the tecnology we have at this moment and time . It can always be improvement not just by teachers but by students too . Comuunication is the key .
Online leassons are not better than face to face leassons because we dont have that ''must have'' interaction and we cant learn by just reading and listening to online leassons. We all have some internet problems, lack of tecnology, lack of privacy so it can be really hard for the all of us .

  68. In general, online lessons are very good way of studying. As we can see, everything in the world in technology oriented. Thus, everything is getting technologized. Online lessons in the world we live in are very advanced and useful, even though it has its own pros and cons. When we summarize pros and cons, in my opinion there are more pros and online lessons should be more involved in education process. Main advantages of online lessons are more time spent at home and we have more time to study, better work-study organization, getting familiar with different technologies and applications, etc. Disadvantages are bigger, and we have faced them already. Usually there are problems on being lazy, not doing tasks on your own, cheating on exams, and failing them due to lack of self-organization. Online learning is and can be great way of learning, if an individual knows how to organize himself. In this manner, learning English online can be challenging. It was always easier to learn foreign language in person, because someone is trying to explain things better for us. Nowadays, we can find online tutors that can teach us in the way someone would in person, and that is facilitated for us a lot.
Teachers are doing their best to help us and make things easier for us. As we sometimes ask for someone's help, I believe teachers are also asking for help, and that is perfectly fine. They are doing really good job. All of us will learn something new and that is one of the goals in this online teaching period.
Most of my experiences were very good and positive. Small number of experiences were unpleasant, but it was a result of misunderstanding, and it was solved in no time. Online teaching can never replace face to face teaching, but it is very good, and many thing that can't be learned in face-to-face teaching were taught now, and it really widen our perspective. Each type of lessons have its advantages and disadvantages, and it is hard to say in general which type is better, but in my opinion everything done face-to-face has more effect and is more powerful than doing it online.

  69. As school suspension due to COVID-19 is being prolonged in many countries, technology is currently the only means by which we can reach out to our students. Therefore, we need to reconsider when, where and how learning happens and adapt our methodological approach.
The real challenge, however, is to provide effective distance learning with meaningful activities to keep students focused on their learning goals and performance objectives. Faculty members often need to rethink their course design and use different strategies for teaching, engagement and assessment in the online environment. Students who are new to the online environment or who have lower motivation and drive may fall behind or get confused. Although it is not necessary to have advanced technical skills, it is important to feel comfortable using a computer and navigating the Internet.
Online learning can be good because for student it is easier to stay focused at home or any different place in which he can study.

  70. There are, however, challenges to overcome. Some students without reliable internet access and technology struggle to participate in digital learning. This gap is seen across countries and between income brackets within countries.

For those who do have access to the right technology, there is evidence that learning online can be more effective in a number of ways. While we have yet to see whether this will apply to e-learning post-COVID-19, it is one of the few sectors where investment has not dried up. What has been made clear through this pandemic is the importance of disseminating knowledge across borders, companies, and all parts of society. If online learning technology can play a role here, it is incumbent upon all of us to explore its full potential.

  71. I will approach this subject as both student and schoolteacher. I am part-time student and I live in Tuzla. Before pandemic and digital transformation of education process, I was obliged to travel almost every weekend to Sarajevo for two months approximately, so I could be informed about contents of every subject, literature recommendations etc. Lectures would usually last just one hour, in contrast to it I had to travel altogether about 6 hours forth and back. It was important to manage my time effectively. I would work hard for five days in three different schools, Friday evening I would be in Sarajevo, Sunday back to Tuzla. After arrival I would prepare myself for coming workweek and so forth. Then there were exams. Since they often would happen early in the morning and on workdays, I had to take unpaid days off and travel more. It was exhausting. I was becoming ill from exhaustion when at the beginning of March 2020 WHO declared global pandemic. All turned digital and ironically, despite the seriousness of situation, I felt relief. I could now work from home despite sickness and I could be additionally informed, take all regular courses and exams without the need to travel or take days off. Fast forward, it is almost one year later and I am a bit more aware of all the benefits and disadvantages of new learning and teaching ways. As student, I really benefit from online learning, because I can now learn in my own time and schedule. Besides self-paced learning, I also do not have to travel that often as before. It is finally easier to reach teachers per E-mail or trough other electronic means and there is more intensive exchange between students. As a teacher I am fully aware of all the disadvantages of online teaching, learning and assessing. As I already mentioned in my post about online assessments, most teachers lack needed technical and creative skills to make this new learning and teaching mode effective. As it was pointed out in the text, there is also huge socio-economic disparity in our society and some students who are lacking material means do not have adequate technical equipment. They are a priori excluded from online education which is a form of children’s and human rights violation. For me as art teacher online teaching has couple of advantages. One is intensive interaction and the second, for me very important one, are various ways I can mediate different art topics in online environment. For example I can visit online exhibitions with all of my students and show them many different facets of the visual art phenomena I usually cannot do in schools that lack technical equipment. Since this post is becoming too long, I‘ll try to end it here. Online lessons could be great addition to face-to-face lessons in the classrooms, but they are in some cases obsolete, like for example when children have special education needs in which case education must be specific, highly individualized and mainly direct (face-to-face).

I think online learning has several drawbacks such as:online students feedback is limited, E - learning can cause social isolation, E -learning requiers strong self motivation and time managment skills, lack of communicational skill development in online students, cheating prevention during online assessments is complicated, online instructors tend to focus on theory rather than practice, E -learning lacks face - to -face communication,E - learning is limited to certain disciplines.,online learning is inacceseeible to the computer illiterate population, lack of accreditation and quality assurance in online education.
