Digital Storytelling in Education

Dear students,

I hope you are doing fine and looking forward to the end of this semester which is coming very soon. J So, in this pre-final week we'll talk about Digital Storytelling and how it can be used in education.

First of all, let us answer the question: 'What is Digital Storytelling?'

Generally, Digital Storytelling (DST) is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories, i.e. combining the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video, and Web publishing. Thus, digital storytelling refers to a variety of emergent new forms of digital narratives, such as web-based stories, interactive stories, hypertexts, audio and video podcasts, etc.
Digital storytelling is a short form of digital media production that allows everyday people to share aspects of their story. The media used may include the digital equivalent of film techniques (full-motion video with sound), stills, audio only, or any of the other forms of non-physical media (material that exists only as electronic files as opposed to actual paintings or photographs on paper, sounds stored on tape or disc, movies stored on film) which individuals can use to tell a story or present an idea (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_storytelling).

One can define digital storytelling as the process by which diverse peoples share their life stories and creative imaginings with others. Digital stories are often presented in compelling and emotionally engaging formats, and they can also be interactive. Digital storytelling can be taken as the modern extension of the ancient art of storytelling, which is now interwoven with digitized still and moving images and sound. This enables individuals to approach storytelling from unique perspectives. Digital storytelling combines the art of storytelling with multimedia features such as photography, text, audio, voiceover, hypertext and video. This newer form of storytelling emerged with the advent of accessible media production techniques, hardware and software, including but not limited to digital cameras, digital voice recorders, iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, Final Cut Express and WeVideo. These new technologies allow individuals to share their stories over the Internet on YouTube,Vimeo, compact discs, podcasts, and other electronic distribution systems.

As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. Digital stories can vary in length, but most of the stories used in education typically last between 2 and 10 minutes. The most important characteristics of a digital story are that it no longer conforms to the traditional conventions of storytelling because it is capable of combining still imagery, moving imagery, sound, and text, as well as being nonlinear and contain interactive features. Digital storytelling is also very audience-driven because of the necessity to help your audience understand your story through various media. Therefore, there are 7 basic elements of digital storytelling:

(1)  Point of View. What is the main point of the story and what is the perspective of the author?
(2)  A Dramatic Question – a key question that keeps the audience's attention and that will be answered by the end of the story
(3)  Emotional Content- a personal and powerful way to convey 'serious issues' and connect to the audience
(4)  The Gift of Your Voice – a way to personalize the story
(5)  The Power of the Soundtrack – music and other sounds that support and embellish the story
(6)  Economy – using just enough content to tell the story without overloading the audience
(7)  Pacing – the story needs a rhythm, i.e. whether it progresses slowly or quickly.

There are numerous ways that Digital Storytelling can be used in education. Digital storytelling has the potential to engage learners in integrated approaches tolearning with digital media. Furthermore, digital storytelling enhances learners' motivation, and helps teachers in building constructivist learning environments. Digital stories may be used as an expressive medium within the classroom to integrate subject matter with extant knowledge and skills from across the curriculum. There are many benefits of digital storytelling for students, e.g. they do extensive research on the topics they have chosen, they learn how to select resources, they practice script writing, they develop technical skills and information literacy, they enhance their presentation skills, they improve collaboration with peers and develop their creativity expression, etc. As a method, digital storytelling combines techniques to develop literacy and storytelling skills with an introduction to basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT), using group exercises and individual processes that develop confidence and build self-esteem.

When digital storytelling is used in education, the seven elements for digital stories that we have mentioned above can be extended to include a few new items in order to be more applicable to the types of digital stories created by students (digitalstorytelling.coe.uh.edu). These elements are:
1. The Overall Purpose of the Story

2. The Narrator’s Point of View

3. A Dramatic Question or Questions

4. The Choice of Content

5. Clarity of Voice

6. Pacing of the Narrative

7. Use of a Meaningful Audio Soundtrack

8. Quality of the Images, Video & other Multimedia Elements

9. Economy of the Story Detail

10. Good Grammar and Language Usage

In the field of education, digital storytelling can be used both by teachers and their students, from early childhood programs  and classrooms through graduate school, in many different content areas and across a wide range of grade levels. Digital storytelling can be used as early as in preschool programs, because it has numerous benefits for preschoolers, e.g. it introduces new vocabulary to children, listening to stories also enhances a child's vocabulary, children develop their listening skills, etc. Studies have proved that infancy is the period when children absorb most of the words that they later use in their lives.

If they want to create a digital story, students need to work through a Digital Storytelling Process.
·                     Start with an Idea. ...
·                     Research/Explore/Learn. ...
·                     Write/Script. ...
·                     Storyboard/Plan. ...
·                     Gather and Create Images, Audio and Video. ...
·                     Put It All Together. ...
·                     Share. ...
·                     Reflection and Feedback.

When designing, shooting, and evaluating videos, the students acquire knowledge that is related to their video topics. Students are encouraged to become creators, producers, and discussants, rather than simply passive audience members. Digital storytelling encourages and supports all forms of interaction. Learners have a central role in exploring and building knowledge by using different kinds of material tools, such as mobile phones, computers, and the Internet. Learning together with others and watching stories that other students have made can enhance interaction and collaboration between students. When planning and making digital stories together, students can become aware of their own knowledge and experiences and reflect on and share these with others, but it can also bring new perspectives to the topic and broaden their horizons. Finally, digital storytelling can create virtual learning environments and be used for learning 21st-century skills and competencies needed in students’ future working life.

  3. Hello 👋🏻🙂
Digital storytelling empowers students to be confident communicators and creators of media as they gain essential 21st-century literacy skills and reach deeper understanding in all areas of the curriculum. This technique is a combination of the old storytelling tradition and new technology. With increasing availability of computerized devices in schools, various forms of digital media production have become quite common as approaches to learning. A digital story is essentially any combination of a spoken narrative and a number of visuals, perhaps with a soundtrack - along with new technologies to edit and share the story. Digital storytelling benefits students
research, resource selection, development of technical skills, expression of creativity, presentation.

Digital storytelling can be used to reinforce subject matter, to share an experience or present some new information in a creative and interesting way. It can be used as homework, classroom group projects, or a holiday project for students. You may want to start by giving your students something small and perhaps ask them to create a short 30 second video report on a movie that they have watched recently. Another assignment that would interest many of them would be to make a video on their own lives.

  6. Hi everyone🤗

If you want to get consumers’ attention, try telling a story. If you want to reach them where they’re already engaged, tell your story online.

Digital storytellers, brands can utilize technology and computer-based tools to share their messages. This practice spans endless digital storytelling tools and narratives, including text, images, video, audio, social media, website, mobile app and interactive elements.

Marketers unite: It’s story time! Here’s what you need to know about digital storytelling:

    Why tell a story?
As humans, we absorb stories more readily than facts and figures. We pay attention to them. We connect with them. Most importantly, we remember them. That’s the art of storytelling.

With the right narrative, brands can speak to their consumers in a way that resonates. Stories create a conversation with the audience, rather than brands simply talking at their customers.

Not only do people understand stories, they also like them. Telling a story allows brands to successfully present concepts to their audience and form a connection that goes beyond products or services. Nowdays there is every day something new from world of technology. So everything we can use to tell digital story on our way😊🤗

  7. The most popular topic of digital storytelling is personal stories. These types of stories help find meaning in our life experiences especially in the challenges we face. Personal narratives help us think about where we have been, what we have learned, and illustrate our travels and discoveries.

In addition to personal stories, historical events are also a very common topic. This type of digital story, if created by a student, requires students to research and synthesize large amounts of information into the most important and educationally useful information.

All digital stories inform or teach about a certain area, event, etc. But the difference is that some digital stories can be created specifically to present teaching content on a variety of topics such as history, culture, math, science, or language arts. In that case, we are talking about digital stories that inform or teach.

  9. Digital storytelling is basically the practice of using digital tools for the purpose of storytelling. Other terms such as digital documentaries, digital essays, interactive storytelling, etc. are used to describe this practice. All of these notions revolve around the idea of unifying the art of storytelling and using new digital tools to create those stories.

Digital storytelling thus allows technology users to become creative storytellers through the traditional process of selecting a topic, writing a screenplay, and developing an interesting story.

Like classic stories, digital ones deal with a certain topic from a certain perspective. But as the name suggests digital stories usually contain a combination of text, audio, video and music. Digital stories can vary in length, but most digital stories used in education typically last between two and ten minutes.

To get even closer to the concept of digital storytelling, we will introduce you to the seven elements of the digital story defined by the Center for Digital Storytelling in Berkeley.

    Seven elements:

point of view (main purpose of the story and author's perspective)
a key question that holds the viewer’s attention and will be answered at the end of the story
emotional element (important problems brought to life in a personal and powerful way connect the viewer with the story)
more personalized stories to help viewers better understand the context
the power of audio content (music and sounds that support and enhance the story and make it more powerful)
    optimal use of content
    the rhythm of the story.
If it is an educational digital story, especially if it is made by students, the seven elements are modified and supplemented in accordance with the special requirements of one such digital story. The elements of a digital educational story are:
the main purpose of the story
    the narrator’s point of view
key question or questions (question or questions that hold the viewer's attention)
    content selection
    clarity of story
    the rhythm of storytelling
    meaningful use of audio content
    quality of multimedia content
optimal use of detail in storytelling
proper use of language (spelling and grammar).

What follows is a further introduction to digital storytelling, more precisely to the process of creating a digital story.

The process of making a digital story
The first and very important step in making a digital story is to choose the theme of the story to be made. We can make our choice easier if we get acquainted with the main topics of digital stories and look at ready-made stories from various fields.

Digital stories can be divided into three categories according to topics: personal, historical and stories that inform or teach.

But the difference is that some digital stories can be created specifically to present teaching content on a variety of topics such as history, culture, math, science, or the language arts. In that case, we are talking about digital stories that inform or teach.

  10. Digital storytelling describes a simple, creative process through which people with little or no experience in computer film-making gain skills needed to tell a personal story as a two-minute film using predominantly still images and voiceover. Digital Storytelling in the classroom is about using technology to tell a story. It is similar to traditional storytelling, but in this case, we use computers to complement and add to the storytelling experience by using a variety of tools and aids like Microsoft Word, blogs and other websites. It allows the author, students in this case, to be creative and use a variety of media including images, audio and video.
The topics used in digital storytelling range from personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one’s own community to the search for life in other corners of the universe, and literally, everything in between.
Digital storytelling is an exciting new way to get students to learn and present their learning. It’s also a great way to prepare our students for the tech- savvy world that they are in.

I also think that everything that is technological is closer to the children we are going to teach, because they are born and grow up in a time when it is inevitable. That is why we should try to provide them with as many such experiences as possible.

  12. Digital storytelling is a blend of video, sound, image and text to suggest a story, information and idea.
Libraries are housed containing personal advice and meetings. The digital offer should encourage children and young people who would not otherwise come to the library.
Digital storytelling is somewhat different from traditional, the preparation itself is easier and provides a variety of content for children. In their classrooms, teachers have certainly already used digital storytelling and achieved certain results. In order to be able to claim with certainty that digital storytelling is better than traditional, we must dedicate ourselves to both. Tradition is something that each of us sticks to and we build something new on the foundations of tradition. We should never allow the living word of a teacher or narrator to fall into oblivion.

      Izbriši
  15. Hello everyone! This topic is very interesting because we are a part of this every day since March , 2020.
First, Digital storytelling empowers students to be confident communicators and creators of media as they gain essential 21st-century literacy skills and reach deeper understanding in all areas of the curriculum.
Fiction or nonfiction, a digital story or, multimodal composition, is a narrative produced through the integration of digital modes of communication including audio, still images of all sorts, video and text.
We are not witnessing a replacement of one mode of literacy for another but rather a multiplication of the media. To become literate in the 21st century is to engage in multimodal communications.
Allowing students to create their own digital stories has proven to be a highly effective means of ensuring that students remember what they learn.
In my opinion, the only drawback of this is professional training and such a way of communicating is only help, counseling and the like, and in no way can it replace the living word and our practice.

  16. Digital storytelling is a form of storytelling which is accomplished through the use of technology. Digital storytelling is dynamic, sometimes described as a multimedia approach to storytelling, and it has a number of uses. Some places where digital storytelling can be seen include classrooms, museums, historical societies, and community organizations.
With digital storytelling, there are a number of ways to present the story. Someone may narrate, in their own voice, while images and words are displayed on a screen. Digital storytelling can also incorporate videos, music, audio from other sources, and other artistic expressions to tell a story.
Digital storytelling can last 2 to 10 minutes, depending on the story. In the classroom, digital storytelling can be used in a variety of educational ways. Students can create their own digital stories, learning how to use the technology behind digital storytelling while they record stories about their own lives, or myths which they have created. Teachers can also present material in digital form.

  17. Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories.
Digital stories can vary in lenght, but most of the stories used in education typically last between 2 and 10 minutes. The most important characteristics of a digital story are that it's no longer conforms to the traditional conventions of storytelling because it is capable of combining still imagery, moving imagery, sound and text.
There are 7 basic elements of digital storytelling: 1) Point of Wiew, 2) A Dramatic Question, 3) Emotional content, 4) The Gift of Your Voice, 5) The Power of the Soundtrack, 6) Economy, 7) Pacing.
Digital storytelling is very effective learning tool because it is very easy to use and very interesting for kids and teachers. Digital storytelling can be used in education trought videos and documentary films of topics wich are important for kids.
There are many benefits of digital storytelling for students. They do extensive research on the topics they have chosen, they learn how to select resources, they practice script, they develop technical skills and creativity expression, etc.
If we want to make a good digital story we need to work trought a Digital Storytelling Proces wich includes: An Idea, Research, Write, Storyboard/Plan, Gather and Create images/Audio and Video, Put it all together, Share, Reflection and Feedback.
As a student I have a central role in exploring and building knowledge by using different tools like phone, computer and Internet. Students can learn together and enhance interaction and collaboration between students.
There is so many benefits for preschoolers wich introduces new vocabulary to children, listening to stories also enhances a child's vocabulary.

  18. Hi ! Digital storytelling is at its core a practice that uses computer tools to tell stories. DP is an innovative pedagogical approach that engages students in deep and meaningful learning and has been proven to be effective, especially for young people. In this methodology, narrators or actors remain the owners of their story and choose for themselves what and how they want to tell under the guidance of their coaches. Digital narrators also technically develop a story and thus enhance their linguistic abilities as well as digital and media literacy skills. They learn about new ways of self-expression which is an important factor in strengthening oneself. The methodology is best used when there is a group of 8 to 12 participants with a trainer. It is a combination of lectures and storytelling in a circle. Circle storytelling is a method used to build personal stories while actively listening, giving and receiving feedback on what is being said from the whole group. DP is a simple and accessible way of telling a story in a short film, without the need for extensive technical knowledge or skills.
This technique can be used for all types of topics and stories: life stories; stories about other people (very suitable for intergenerational and intercultural projects; stories about migration, intangible heritage, etc.); specific topics (democracy, anti-racism, citizenship), etc.
DP is particularly useful in teaching education for global citizenship (OGG) and spreading the concepts of global citizenship among young people in the digital society. The use of digital tools helps young people to develop digital and social skills, critical thinking and creativity within an informal framework. Medina Kunić RN4

  19. There are numerous ways that digital storytelling can be used in education. Some educators may decide to create their own stories and show them to their students as a way to present new material. Teacher-created digital stories may also be used to enhance current lessons within a larger unit, as a way to facilitate discussion about the topics presented a story and as a way of making abstract or conceptual content more understandable. While many educators still lack a cohesive plan for integrating multimedia into their instruction, a growing number of teachers are interested in exploring ways to engage their students by including images, audio and video elements in their instruction. Research has shown that the use of multimedia in teaching helps students retain new information as well as aids in the comprehension of difficult material. And Digital Storytelling can provide educators with a powerful tool to use in their classrooms.

  20. Hello everyone!
Digital storytelling is The process and result of telling a story using technology tools. Using technology, including still pictures, audio, and movies, to tell a personal story in a compelling, engaging format. There are a few basic elements of digital storytelling in education. You need to present that story like you are living in it rather than a detached telling that this happened and that happened, viewers experience you living inside this story. A good story creates intrigue or tension around a situation that is posed at the beginning of the story and resolved at the end, which means you need to create developing creative tension in your story. A good story has a destination, it seeks the shortest path to its destination. There is one more basic element and at the same time my favorite one. You should “show” not tell that story to someone. A good story incorporates technology in artful ways, you should demonstrate it with images, sound, voice, color, animations, design, and maybe special effects so the person that is listening/reading it really “lives” inside that story. Students who are already artistically inclined can use their talents and passions to get creative in their classes. Digital storytelling mixes different media and skills, and that creates a powerful exchange of information. In my opinion, storytelling in education is a really good thing because there are so many benefits to reading and engaging in storytelling activities with young children, they can understand the reality in the world through our stories and our experiences in the past.
Stay happy, healthy, and creative! :)

This technique is a combination of old storytelling tradition and new technology.
Digital storytelling empowers students to be confident communicators and creators of media as they gain essential 21st-century literacy skills and reach deeper understanding in all areas of the curriculum.

We can say that we have used this strategy to some extent if we take into account the large number of power point presentations that we have used very well throughout our education. I think that's one way of digital storytelling.

Reading those 7 basic elements I think that the most important one is emotional content - the best way to tell about something is connect to the audience.

The basic elements of digital storytelling are point of View, a Dramatic Question, emotional Content, the Gift of Your Voice, the Power of the Soundtrack, economy, pacing. Digital storytelling is an effective learning tool. It can be used in teaching in some projects, research. It’s a good thing because it develops creativity, knowledge, interest, a lot of ability. One digital story is made by main point of the story, a key question, a personal and powerful way to convey 'serious issues' and connect to the audience, a way to personalize the story, music and other sounds that support and embellish the story, using just enough content to tell the story without overloading the audience, the story needs a rhythm, i.e. whether it progresses slowly or quickly. In the field of education, teachers and their students, from early childhood classrooms through graduate school, are using digital storytelling in many different content areas and across a wide range of grade levels. Digital stories can vary in length, but most of the stories used in education typically last between 2 and 10 minutes. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips, and/or music. The topics used in digital storytelling range from personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one’s own community to the search for life in other corners of the universe, and literally, everything in between.

The great thing about digital storytelling projects is that they’re relatively easy to modify for the age, content knowledge, and skills of every student. We all had an opportunity to experience this, and from my own experience I can say that it was very useful, interesting and helping in these difficult times. It is such an easy way to transfer anything you would do at school/college etc. to few videos/pictures/short movies etc.

  30. This is, for me, the most interesting theme so far. You may ask why? Digital storytelling is the one of the most popular method for todays education. Children from an early age use internet as learning platform. So the teacher should adjust to the popular trends. Thats the reason why we, as the future educators, try to improve our knowladge and use the most of the modern technology and popular platforms. As the students we can make a lot out of our faculty projects in that way. Thats why we have decided to make something new, interesting, creative and innovative. We, as a group, came up with an idea to make a little show in which we will present our theme „Stages in children's drawings“. Because of this whole situation with Covid-19, we had a lot of challenges. Some of them were: problem with sharing video materials that we have recorded, we were not in the same city, because of restrictions we were limited in movement, and much more issues that we have faced with. But we have decided not to let that to stop us and to turn all of that into our benefits. After the research and finding interesting materials we have organized video shooting from four different cites. We have gather all of the materials in one place, created logo and assembled it. In that video we have presented educational and interesting content eather for children and adults. As the final product we got a great video and we have presented it to our proffessor. The impressions were great and we got all of the support. Later on we have shared the video with other proffessors and students and they were amazed. We were glad to see that all of the work payed off. Most of all we were happy to prove, primary to ourselves, that something great can be made. 31. Digital storytelling is one of the most popular trends nowadays. People rather chose to record video as a way of transfer of knowledge than write a book. Life became faster and people doesn't have much time to sit down and read books about instructions how to do something. Nowadays, they just turn on their cellphones and search for digital way of example how to do something. It can be very useful sometimes, but it also can be very risky. Literally, anyone can record a tutorial nowadays and publish it to the world. The problem occurs when unverified and inaccurate information becomes relevant. That is the main problem of digital storytelling.
Anyways, digital storytelling can be very useful as a teaching method. For example, there are many professors that record their courses and post it to the internet. From those courses and their storytelling, many students and teachers can have huge benefits and learn a lot. They can watch it over and over again and they have chance to learn better. In addition, those students who miss classes have a chance to catch up with a knowledge. At the end, digital storytelling can be very useful in education. Of course, it depends on how we use it. But, like everything else in life, it has it’s good and bad side.At the end, like Carl Gustav Joung said: "It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves".

  32. Digital storytelling is a powerful way to connect young learners to reading, writing, and digital literacy. While students in the primary grades may be more likely to watch stories than read and write their own, today’s digital tools make it easy for these emerging writers to create and publish their own stories. Digital storytelling tools provide opportunities for primary learners to begin communicating their ideas by simply adding pictures and recording their narration to describe what they’ve drawn, providing an opportunity to practice retelling before they begin writing. Traditional storytelling has always been viewed as one of the best teaching approaches and it is considered as the original form of teaching. Digital storytelling is generally a creative process of telling stories and sharing information with multimedia tools and resources. The first difference between traditional storytelling and digital storytelling is the students’ engagement with the language. The students who use digital storytelling will be able to engage with the language of their generation compared to the traditional storytelling. Then, the students will have the opportunity to amplify their voice with the help of technology sources. Traditional storytelling will be focusing only on listening and reading skills but the digital storytelling will have a wider focus on other skills such as interactivity by promoting collaborative learning and technology literacy by engaging with the technology sources.
There are 7 basic elements of digital storytelling:

Digital storytelling is one of the most effective teaching tools in an online environment. In its loosest sense, “digital storytelling” just refers to a means of communication by video that combines images with narration.

  33. Hello!
Digital storytelling is a blend of video, audio, images, and text to convey stories, information, and ideas.
Digital storytelling takes advantage of the vast array of today’s technological options to tap into storytellers’ creativity. This technique uses animation, video, music, images, and other multimedia to compile a narrative. Digital storytelling is also very audience-driven because of the necessity to help your audience understand your story through various media. By taking part in various digital storytelling activities, students can reflect on their own projects and on those of their peers. . “Designing and communicating information requires students to deepen their understanding of content while increasing visual, sound, oral language, creativity, and thinking skills. Making meaning out of an experience deepens the communication for both the author and the viewers."

  35. Digital storytelling can be a useful instructional tool for both students and educators. When teachers use this method correctly, this high-tech tool can support instruction and improve multiple literacy skills in the language lesson.

    Types of Digital Stories:

    1) Students can create personal narratives around significant incidents in their lives.
    2) Students can create historical documentaries that examine past events.
    3) Students can create stories around recent classroom themes to help consolidate vocabulary and language structures.
    4) Teachers and students can create digital stories to teach and revise a particular language concept or point in an interesting and fun way.
    5) Students can create stories to show multiple language competencies, especially if requested to go out on the street and interview or present a survey.
For digital projects in the classroom, the stories should last around 5 minutes, and can be created by students individually or together in small groups. Once created, students can share their stories over the Internet on YouTube, for example, and other digital distribution systems.

  37. Digital storytelling is about organizations shaping their constellation of elements across digital channels to allow their audience to draw from them, capture a truth about the organization, understand the corporate values represented, and most importantly, digital storytelling is about evoking wonder. In the noise of online marketing, digital storytelling aims to hold your audience still for a brief moment in their day.
Digital Storytelling (DST) is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories, i.e. combining the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video, and Web publishing. Thus, digital storytelling refers to a variety of emergent new forms of digital narratives, such as web-based stories, interactive stories, hypertexts, audio and video podcasts, etc.
There are 7 basic elements of digital storytelling:

    (1) Point of View. What is the main point of the story and what is the perspective of the author?
    (2) A Dramatic Question – a key question that keeps the audience's attention and that will be answered by the end of the story

    (6) Economy – using just enough content to tell the story without overloading the audience
    (7) Pacing – the story needs a rhythm, i.e. whether it progresses slowly or quickly.

When digital storytelling is used in education, the seven elements for digital stories that we have mentioned above can be extended to include a few new items in order to be more applicable to the types of digital stories created by students (digitalstorytelling.coe.uh.edu). These elements are:
    1. The Overall Purpose of the Story

    2. The Narrator’s Point of View

    3. A Dramatic Question or Questions

    4. The Choice of Content

    5. Clarity of Voice

  38. Hello everyone!
Digital storytelling refers to a variety of emergent new forms of digital narratives. This is sometimes very important in preschool. Preschoolers sometimes need to involve more senses (sight, hearing, touch) to understand a new term. Digital storytelling allows the teacher to blend video, sound, images and text to convey new stories, information and ideas. In traditional storytelling the teacher conveys the finished information to the children, and in digital storytelling the children can find the information themselves. In my opinion, that is the most important difference between digital and traditional storytelling. However, digital storytelling also has its drawbacks - some lessons we can't explain to children through it. Digital storytelling is successful, if we know what is the main point of the story and that is the perspective of the author, if the story has a rhythm, if we personalize the voice properly and if we ask questions that hold the audience’s (chlidren's) attention.

Advantages of digital education: if they are published in a digital repository, the contents are always available to students who are absent from class or cannot follow it in the classroom, as well as those who need more repetition and additional instructions and clarifications, students themselves they choose the time when they will study because the materials are always available (24/7), if students study certain material in advance, then in class they can discuss with other students and teachers and thus increase mutual interaction in the classroom (reverse classroom), students who are in the classroom withdrawn and shy will prefer to write their opinions and comments on the forum or using some tool to exchange opinions and ideas and thus get the opportunity to hear them, allows differentiation and adaptation of content for students with disabilities and gifted students, allows monitoring the progress of each student / student, the contents are easily updated with new knowledge.

  44. Hi everyone.
Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories, combining the art of telling stories with a vatiety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video and Web publishing.
If they want to create a digital story, students need to work through a Digital Storytelling Process:
    - start with an idea
    - research/explore/learn
    - write/script
    - gather and create images, audio and video
    - put it all together
    - share
    - reflection and feedback...

Digital storytelling can create virtual learning environments and be used for learning 21st century skills and competencies needed in student's future working life. When we compare traditional storytelling and digital storytelling we can see huge difference between them. Traditional storytelling is monotonous and bored way of learning. But in digital storytelling there is many more options such as video, audio, image and it is much more interesting especially for children.
Also digital storytelling enhances learner's motivation and helps teachers in building constructivist learning environments. There are many benefits of digital storytelling for students, they do extensive research on the topics they have chosen, they learn how to select resources, they practice script writing, they develop technical skills and information literacy, they enhance they presentation skills, they improve collaboration with peers and develop their creativity expression, etc.

  45. Digital storytelling is a great way for teachers to encourage the creative use of technology in learning. The process can be used with almost any subject and with the abundance of apps and tools available, there's one that's right for every classroom. Traditional storytelling has always been viewed as one of the best teaching approaches and it is considered as the original form of teaching. In my opinion, traditional approach of storrytelling is seen as an approach that managed to bring lots of benefits to the students but they need more engagement with orher sources insted of just reading or listening to a text because they still have othet skills and technology by skills. Therefore, digital storrytelling was introduced in order to ensure the students managed to acquire both language and technical skills by using technology based learning. Digital storrytelling is generally a creative process of telling stories and sharing information with multimedia tools and resourced.

  46. Digital storytelling is the art of combining narrative with digital media such as images, sound, and video to create a short story (Robin, 2008). More than just a simple slideshow of photos set to music, digital stories interweave different media to support the art of telling a talen. One of the greatest strengths of digital storytelling is the ability to share it with others instantly. Sharing might consist of showcasing student creations, or sending a message out to the world. Students can also work together on projects remotely or get feedback from their peers.

  48. Hiii, everyone! 😊

Digital storytelling is a multimedia approach to sharing a narrative. It can be autobiographical, but it doesn’t have to be. Creators can combine video, photography, sound, text, music and often a narrative voice to share their stories in a digital-media format. In the classroom, students can create digital stories in collaborative groups, taking on different roles such as the writer, director, editor and narrator. You can create a rubric that targets Common Core objectives for English language arts, digital literacy fundamentals and participation expectations.
The idea of merging traditional storytelling with today's digital tools is spreading worldwide." Anybody today with a computer can create a digital story simply by answering such questions as What do you think? What do you feel? What is important? How do we find meaning in our lives?
Digital storytelling empowers students to be confident communicators and creators of media as they gain essential 21st-century literacy skills and reach deeper understanding in all areas of the curriculum.

  49. A digital story is a multimedia presentation combining a variety of digital elements within a narrative structure.. Digital storytelling combines the best of two worlds: the "new world" of digitised video, photography and art, and the "old world" of telling stories. Digital storytelling can be used to reinforce subject matter, to share an experience or present some new information in a creative and interesting way. It can be used as homework, classroom group projects, or a holiday project for students.
